Houston Nutt. Is this a great country or what? Four years ago Houston Nutt and his agent, Jimmy Sexton, pulled off one of the greatest coups ever. Nutt was in the process of being forced out at Arkansas and got a buyout of over $3.5 million to walk away. Just hours after his dismissal at Arkansas was announced Nutt was hired by Mississippi at a salary of about $2.5 million. This Saturday, after back to back losing seasons, Nutt will coach his last home game for Ole Miss against No. 1 LSU. The price tag for his departure this time will be another $6 million. Nutt, who just turned 54, could retire in style but says he wants to coach again: "I still think I've got one more good run left in me," he said
.

I posted this on the SEC Rant. But wanted to post it here for the few that don't venture over there. It kinda has something to do with the Tigers, since we're playing Nutt this week.

Want to become a millionaire? Make one team medicore, get fired, con another team into giving you a huge contract, then run that team in the ground, get fired again.

Now that is some sweet work if you can get it.

He needs to con his way into another major conference job.

May not be worth a shite as a coach, but as a business man, he is racking it up. I guess he is lucky that Sexton is his agent.

Did he actually collect on the Arkansas buyout? I was under the impression that a buyout was not payable if the person takes another job during the period covered by the previous contract.

If he was actually able to cash the Arky check, he did get a sweet deal!

Actually what he said was, "I still think I've got one more good buy-out left in me"

I do think he's a decent coach - DECENT - but not any better than that.

If I was an AD looking at him, and Sexton brought up "buyouts", etc, I'd laugh in Sexton's fat face.

Just tell him straight up HELL NO. Your guy wins, we'll bonus the crap out of him, but we are not guaranteeing him anything, because obviously, as soon as he gets the guarantee, he freakin quits working.

Remember watching Nutt's University of Arkansas team beat the eventual National Champion in overtime. He comes back next year - '08 - with a different team (Ole Miss) and beats LSU again!

Leaving those games I remember how many people were mad that Les Miles got "outcoached" by Nutt.

Also, saw Nutt beat Mike Leach in the last Cotton Bowl at the old stadium...and win the first Cotton Bowl in Cowboys Stadium against a very good Oklahomas St. Mike Gundy led Cowboy team.

I've seen enough - in person - to realize that Nutt is a good football coach. He will coach again or make a lot of money being a college football analyst.

As a coach you have good years and bad years. He has had enough bad years at Ole Miss to have to be shown the door.

College football coaching is more about recruiting than it is X's and O's. He has not been able to get the talent into Oxford. That is obvious to me when he gets handled by La. Tech.
