Besides the Indy Bowl and Saban taking over a program on probation and that he was a good enough coach to be a DC in the NFL, I was following recruiting closely nationally, and was shocked that Saban, as "the other" program in Michigan, was getting on so many top 100 recruits "finalist lists" when I read articles on who the top players were considering.

I had never seen Michigan State listed on kids lists around the country, and there was already stories of how hard he worked his staff on recruiting.

When the news broke that LSU might get him I was very excited. I thought he would turn LSU into the a recruiting power that many had argued could never happen. I didn't think he could have us playing for a national championship a few years later though. Exceeded my expectations. Hate his guts for going to our rival.

He was on a Sports Illustrated cover, shown in front of his Michigan State team getting ready to lead them onto the field.

I had heard about him since he was a young lad. He was a legend in West Virginia. Many stories about the young kid whose dad would make him run up Mount Everest after football practice and carry back down 5 bushels of leaves to prove he reached the mountain's summit.

Saw him coach in Shreveport. Michigan State was up and coming. I was excited about him taking over.

Can we all agree to cease any discussion of this prick??? I supported his teams and loved the clean play - few penalties, few turnovers and well managed. I didn't like Miles for many years for playing so sloppy and making questionable choices. However, personally I feel that Saban pissed all over any love I have for him by becoming a cousin-humping Gump.

I did. Lots of positive talk about his ability to rebuild teams and move on.

The 1995 Indy Bowl was when I first heard of Saban. I used to enjoy his sideline rants at MSU. He threw a lot of headsets back then.
