I could understand it if Jay were a renowned hitting guru who later transitioned into a head coaching role. Or if he had played in the Major Leagues and built a reputation as an elite hitter. But to my knowledge, he’s neither.
He become a HC relatively young but he was a good hitting coach before he became a HC.
He was Kris Bryant’s hitting coach in college and there are a lot of articles about how he helped him.

Jake brown seems to have improved as a hitter under Jay. I would add Stanfield, Jared jones despite a big slump.
Milam seems to have not developed much. Curiel too early to tell. Braswell got worse, travinsky worse.
Travinski got better as a hitter under Jay. Milam has developed and was one of the best hitters in the post season last year. He struggled in SEC play but turned it on.
Beloso, Dugas, Jobert, and Frey all developed as hitters under Jay. Very few have not progressed and gotten better as hitters under Jay. Very surprised to see the amount of ignorance take place regarding Jay and the offensive development piece.

That raises a bigger question: why isn’t there a proven, dedicated hitting coach in that role?
Not really

J has had 1 team with an On% under .400 and it was .397.
That’s still better than the the 10 years prior to that.

Well, considering 2 titles in 3 years, I think his process has worked pretty well so far.
