I was talking with my father today about LSU football this morning and he brought key points to my attention about the history of Les Miles and history of the football team.

Some of what this man said to made sense and some I just didn't want to believe but they were indisputable facts about the program.

He started by conversing about Florida and how turnovers were the key so on and on. But like the conversation always goes it turns into what is the overall consensus on the team.

We started talking about Miles and how his true offense over the years has struggled. He went on to make analogies about Charles McClendon and how he would throw up impressive seasons but would lose to a good team and just never could really hack it. He then went on to talk about something that I was denial about. It was the fact that the soul reason we can credit 8 wins out of every season is because of John Chavis. I thought about what he said on the phone for a minute to try and fire back with a "ohh that's bull shite" but I couldn't muster up the words, the man was right. Since Les Miles has been at LSU we havent had a consistent enough(Les developed QB)offense to win more then two games a season, the rest you might as well credit the defense and running game which take no scheme it's just smashmouth.

I love Les and I love LSU and the results of the program are fantastic but the fact is that when we lose Chavis we lose 4 games a season at least.

don't read it IDGAF

You had me nodding my head until this paragraph. Talent and Miles' recruting can equal 8 wins a year for the Tigers. Not Chavis.

As for Charley Mac, my dad and uncle played for him. LSU pretty much had the same formula from the 60's through the 80's. Win a game you have no business winning, lose a game you have no business losing. Go 8-3.

Les has had double digit win seasons before Chavis, and he will after as well.

Sounds like your pops is focused on the last 4 yrs of JJ, J Lee, and Hatch. The real problem isn't the offense, it's penalties and turnovers.

If you want to blame Miles, blame his lack of discipline.

This team can be fixed and is better than what all the nega-tigers believe.

Look how that worked out for the OC we hired, oops it's the quarterback coach now. Les is the OC.

I believe that if Chavis leaves we could get another quality DC but no where near as good as John. This will result in a few losses IMO.

what year do you and your father think chavis was hired? and what do you think our record was prior? to save you some time, we went 11-2 in 2005, 11-2 in 2006, 12-2 in 2007, and 8-5 in 2008. so yeah we lost "at least 4 games" once with les and without Chavis. You and your father are both retarded. Yeah we know the defense carries the team, it carried Saban too and still does.

18-1?

wow, Chavis makes an average of $1.1 million over the next three years and you think we couldn't replace him?

quote:

LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis will be averaging $1.1 million in total compensation over the next three seasons in a new three-year contract, LSU head coach Les Miles has confirmed. The contract has not been finalized, but it is expected to pay Chavis approximately $900,000 this year, $1.1 million in 2013 and $1.3 million in 2014.

For that kind of money as an assistant with a HC that recruits talent like Miles does, LSU could pretty much get anybody they want.

After getting a good laugh from reading some of yalls comments. Im reading and reading, it becomes almost to a point of annoyance how much denial all of you are in about Les and about Nick.

ETA: Les won the Championship with previously developed players in 07.

first of all, les was smart enough to hire chavis. part of being a coach is knowing when to delegate and what to delegate. why is saban so great, is it because of him or his staff ? when les won it all in '07 , it was with "saban's players"...now that its les' players , but we win because of chavis. we win because of les freaking miles ! im sure your dad is very knowlegable about LSU football history, and i can respect that. so am i. we r at the peak of success here. weve fielded a team since 1893. we used to get excited if we went to the cotton bowl, or had a 6-5 season...charlie mac was a great, LOYAL coach. so is les. Tenn fans ran Philip Fulmer out of town, look at them now, struggling to crack top 25. Fulmer had then in the mix every year. but you "struggle" through an 8 or 9 win season and fans want your head. if we let les leave any time soon, chavis will leave also . Maybe we can hire one of these fans who have all the answers .

and that is the big difference with Miles. overall, he wins the games he's supposed to...which is a big change from previous LSU coaches

remember beating a ranked A&M team to lose the next week to Miami of Ohio?

that's the one that really sticks out to me!!!
