I got tired of seeing him run the offense so dang wrecklessly. He had a lot of turnovers from over doing it, and I wouldnt mind seeing a more consistent offense with less boneheaded turnovers.
What? Hickey led the SEC in assist/turnover ratio while being top 5 in total assists. He averaged something like 1.3 turnovers per game.
LSU's offense was far better with him on the court last season. No one else on the team could run the floor even close to as effectively as he could.

LSU is better without hickey. I don't get the infatuation with these midget guards who are black holes
Agree. I know that people are sad to see Hickey go with his solid outside scoring ablity and PG skills but he hampers the defense. Our offense was fine last year. It was just the fact that we played 5'10" Hickey and 5'8" Stringer which made us terrible on defense. Johnny is going bigger at the guard spot so we can improve our defense. Hornsby at 6-4, Josh Gray at 6-1, and TQ at 6-6 is what Johnny is going for right now. This team has enough talent at the offensive end they just have devote themselves to be a good defensive team to put all the pieces together.

I don't think he was a liability.
But, a small guard who couldn't dribble penetrate in the half-court...and couldn't consistently hit an outside shot is a problem.
The flip side is that he was good in transition, and he could defend.
But, the concerns that we are hitting the reset button because of Hickey are ridiculous.
The scary thing is what was Hickey really good at?
He was good at press defense, but not half court defense.
His shot was so inconsistent that he couldn't be relied on.
He certainly couldn't drive to the hoop.
He had a good AST:TO ratio. He was top 3 in the SEC there, but the offense was very stagnant and that has a lot to do with PG play.
Like I said, he gave three good years to LSU and I'm happy we had him, but I think given what LSU is trying to do offensively and defensively, LSU is still in a good position.

Hickey, Stringer, JOB: that's a lot of experience lost

Hickey would have been nice for added depth........but just turn it over to Josh and never look back.

this isn't anything that will kill the team for next year, just a big blow to our depth. hopefully the new guards are as good as advertised and can step up.
SouthofSouth, please provide a graph of something.

Exactly. Gray is too talented to sit. And it may save TQ within the program.

There are kids at the UREC that could have done better at point than Quarterman last year. He's not a big time D1 basketball player.
Hickey will be sorely missed.

I just said a much more condensed version of this on the SECR. He would have no doubt been a contributor, but do we really want him to be our go to PG again this season? I would rather have growing pains with Quarterman and Gray before our big 2015 class comes in.
My question is: Did Jones tell Hickey to take a hike at the tradeoff of Quarterman not trasnferring?

Im not gonna argue with you on this point. I know your position, and know that I cannot change it.
I like a lot of things about Quarterman. You don't recognize the skills I see as important, but given proper PT and understanding of the offense, I think he will shine.

And the official scorer at baseball games, too!!!
He acts like this is an insult, but it shows that he's never played the game if he thinks pitchers don't get a little upset when a booted ball is ruled a hit instead of an error. He's taking one of about 4 reasons I gave last night and is trying to make it sound like I stated that's the only reason.
Here's one for ya. I saw earlier this year that Russian claimed to have respect for Norman Browning. Hey everybody, did you hear that LSURussian respects the St. George movement?

Stagnant 1/2court offense wasnt just on hickey, whole team was clueless and lackadaisacl in their motion and vs zones
He can actually get to the rim, just hesitant due to his free throw deficiencies.
I do think we will be ok with gray/hornsby. More creative, better size and execution on the run.

Tell me what he did for LSU that will be so missed?
If he was a good leader type then I would agree on that point alone, but it was obvious that Q was a better leader than Hickey already halfway thru his freshman year.

Quit making it sound like hes Ben Voogd, I think he's going to be really good.

I doubt it, i think he was just on a short leash and whether its grades or something else he just ran out of chances

TQ was much better the 2nd half of the year on D. He had moments on offense where you could see improvements as well, but he was inconsistent. He has areas where he needs to improve but im definitely glad we kept him around.

There are just certain things that Quarterman can do that Hickey will never be able to do. I mean Quarterman has never played a full game where he was the "PG" and he already had a 9 assist game. Hickey never got 9...
Q's ability to get inside and deliver a very shootable pass is something that I find to be of the highest importance to a PG.
He even started finishing around the rim near the end of last year. Lot's of positives to look at especially with possible development.
