Les says Herbstreit has the most to prove among commentators this bowl-season.

Wonder how many people will believe Herbstreit this year when announces so and so will be the new coach at . . .

It has to be Bob Stoops. Has not won a bowl since '05. Has not won a BCS game since '02.

Has been embarrassed in most bowls the Sooners have been in since '03.

Wish you guys could hear some of the grumblings going on up here.

Herbstreit still has to prove he's not a gel-headed douche. Right now I'm not convinced

Miles publicly handed Herbie his butt on a plate last year. This man will never forget. He has enjoyed every minute of LSUs poor season, beginning with the RP debacle.

What does Miles have to prove?

First year at LSU he finished #5 with the 7th rated recruiting class.

Second year at LSU he finished #3 withe the 4th rated recruiting class.

Third year at LSU he finished #1 and BCS Champion with # 11 recruiting class.

Fourth year at LSU he finished out of the top 20 but is bringing in a top-3 recruiting class and a soon to be anounced DC.

Miles has little to prove. He has already proved he can recruit, attract top rated coaches, and he has already won the Big One.

His detractors are pissing in the wind!

I believe the Tigers have the most at stake of any team playing a bowl: for the obvious reason that we fell so far so fast in 2008. A bowl win would accomplish a number of important positives, while a loss would really make this an ugly season—3 straight losses, 7-6 record, unranked at season's end, etc. This isn't just a Miles thing, it's an LSU football thing, bigger than one person.

Also, I disagree about Stoops/OU having the most at stake—hell, they get into the NC game, that's an accomplishment in itself. Unless they got mauled by Florida, they should come out of the game okay. I know, I know, "Stoops can't win the big games," but that's less of an issue than "they fell from national champs to national chumps"—which is what the Tigers face.

3 straight losses

That's the single biggest thing, right now, for me. You always want to finish the season on a high note, and Mile's record as unbeaten against OOC foes and undefeated in bowl games is also at stake, but before the past two games, Miles had not even lost two consecutive games. But avoiding three losses in a row is a big, big deal.

The previous guy back-to-back games in each of his first three seasons. He also lost 3 out of the last 4 and 4 out of 6 to close out 2002, but he never lost 3 in a row. (He also lost 3 out of 4 during a stretch in 2000).

The last time LSU lost 3 games in a row, it was 1999, and a much as I liked him, Gerry Dinardo was the coach - and he lost 8 in a row. First, last and only 8 game losing streak (at least in one season). 1999 was the only 8 loss season in LSU history, and 1992 was the only 9 loss season. There have been seven (I think) 7 loss season.

he could re-spin his Miles to Michigan story as a Miles SHOULD'VE gone to Michigan story.

This is an interesting statement. Looking at it from the Mich perspective, had they hired Miles, Ryan Mallet probably would not have transferred and they would have probably won 9 games this year. I'm just guessing, but I have the feeling that UM fans would now prefer Miles to Rodriguez.

Obviously a coach does not get many shots at an NC. By staying Miles got that. And to his credit he announced staying when he was only expecting a shot at the Sugar Bowl.

But, he's got to wonder if long-term he would not have been more happy at Mich. This season probably increased that level of doubt.

Now if RRod does not win 9 next year, he may be gone. Mark May reported toward the end of the season that if there were a way out of the deal both UM and RRod would gladly take it. Obviously do not know if this is true.

I hate to highjack but RRod may not make it past next year. With that said does Herbie get to report Les to Meechigan?

I think the Tigers have a lot to prove if we want to continue on the roll we've enjoyed.

Stoops has the most to prove, it wasn't Les that lost to Boise and WV (w/o their head coach)

All Les has done is win every bowl game while at LSU.

taking a team to a national championship and then being ranked as high as #6 only to lose 5 games and have the worst record ever by a team winning a N/C. I would say he has something to prove. This team regressed all season and he lost this team (no discipline)and never made adjustments on defense.
Agreed. It depends on how the team looks in both victory or defeat. A sloppy victory or defeat by a horrid defense and inconsistent offense won't get the fans off of Miles back, including me.

Personally, I think he's made a mess of things this year and has a lot of shite to clean up. If he does it, then fine, if he doesn't, the critics will be all over him.

If BDP announces he's leaving for NW job before the bowl game that could help to, as it's clear that the players have quit on him and do not want to play for him. If Miles team blows out GT then I say the heat is 'less' for Miles but his DC hire will be in the spotlight.

This bullshite about Miles getting a "mulligan" for the clusterfrick that was 2008 is a joke, there is no such thing as a mulligan, you go out there to win games, and get paid handsomely for it. You don't go out there to have a winning season and a then a sloppy losing season. He's recruiting his arse off and gets credit for that, now let's see him develop those players into champions and put the right coaches in place to keep our program having the respect that it deserves nationally.

Out of the SEC, Richt has as much more to prove IMO. Going into the season #1... 3 hard loses and not winning convincingly when they did win. Ugly!
