Tyler would be a terrible for fit for our current scheme, FWIW.

I actually think he would be better than the QBs we have now. He can run the option better than JJ or JL.

I agree with running the option, but that's only about 25% of our offense (still way too much.) He would struggle on option routes. When he was QB, we ran a very limited number of pass plays and the vast majority were off of play actions and roll outs. We don't do this that often (even though we should.)

Tyler would flourish in scheme like Nebraska's, but he'd struggle under Crowton's current scheme.

Not fair. We got to see Herb Tyler and Marcus Randell throughout their entire careers. However, we only got to see JJ for a little over one season. Anyway, if I was a guessing man I would guess that JJ's legacy will end up being a pretty good one.

Herb Tyler..

God, I miss the days of Herbie and Kevin Faulk.

Its a shame they had to play under DiNardo, and a blessing they wont have to play for Miles/Crowton

Your dumb-frickery is endless, isn't it.

I would agree that JJ's legacy would end up being pretty good after the Ga Tech game, but since he has not looked that good since then, and he has actually been trending down, I would have to respectfully disagree. Is he our only hope, maybe so, but I think he will be remembered as a significant weak link on teams that could have done so much.

Well, in all fairness, this is a stupid fricking thread. Posters are asked to compare three QBs who played in three completely different offensive systems based solely on their memory of the player's career.

Let me draw an analogy for you. I loved Herb Tyler, but even the biggest LSU would have to admit that Tyler was not nearly the QB that Dennis Dixon was in college even though they share similar attributes. Dixon, while fantastic in 2007, was absolutely awful under Crowton's scheme at Oregon in 2006. Therefore, it could be reasonably argued that while Tyler was very good in scheme he played in the mid-90s, he would probably have much less success in the current scheme.

Nah, I totally agree with that.

I was refering to his statement about being a betting man and JJ's legacy. The trend has been down and that is undebatable.

As for who should start, I think it is a toss-up. Jordan has put up better numbers than Herb did at this point in his career, but he put it all together in his senior season and threw for 18 TDs and 201/game average. Those teams were not to good, however, and people will always remember Tyler being one of the better players.

Fast-forward to 2010, and Jordan and the WRs take the infamous label of EASILY being our weakest links. Unless the trend turns around, he will be remembered by many as a player who held back what could have been championship teams.

Herb, and its not even close. If you wanted to make the choice difficult, you should have had Josh Booty, Randell, or JJ.
