I said the same thing about Brandon Harris back in the day and people lost their shite. And then lol’d at how he turned out. I’m trying to understand the hype as well.

2 QB’s that hadn’t played a down at LSU that fans thought would be some savior.

It’s really simple. The coaches knew he was better than any QB we have. He’s here to be the starter. We did not need another backup.

With Nick Fitgerald, Jake Fromm, Jarrett Stidham and Drew Lock ALL in the SEC, do you think he even knows who Burrow is?? Let's keep our wits about us please.

This should be enough to get you excited. Small sample size, but 78% should breed encouragement for any Tiger fan who remembers the last 5 years.

His 78% completion percentage is a fact (Fact 1).
It is also a fact that he did it in mop up duty (Fact 2).
You used Fact 2 to argue that Fact 1 was no a valid reason for optimism.

fricking right I did. How is the opponent and situation not important or relevant? That’s like me saying hey guys LSU is unreal this year. Okay based on what? They won 70-6 in the first game allowed 200 yards and gained 600 offensively. Wow who did they play? McNeese. Context matters.
quote:

I then countered by noting that of three of our decent-to-good starting QBs in the past 12 years, they only matched his completion percentage a handful of times in a single game (let alone over the number of reps Joe has).

That is the counterpoint to your point.

Again you are comparing mop up duty up 50 to a full season SEC schedule. Context matters

The question of the thread is where does the optimism come from? That is what the OP (stupidly) asked. It's the film, the success in high school, the # of good teams that recruited him, the 78% completion percentage, the pedigree, the OSU insiders and his performance in the OSU spring game. All of those are the reasons for the hype.

You can choose to be optimistic. I can choose to be realistic. You think the 78% rate is great. I think it’s highly inflated due to game situation and competition. Spring games are never a good indication either. You can choose to think they are. It’s nbd. It seems you’re upset not everyone sees things the way you do.

Doing well in a glorified spring game scrimmage when the defense isn’t allowed to blitz the quarterback doesn’t either.

Spring games aren’t helpful either. You can’t even tackle the q.b much less blitz. Schiano wasn’t dialing up exotic nickel packages with the 2nd and 3rd string.

You do realize this is an indictment on our QBs? They were all mediocre in the spring game.

In game performances are not even on my list for reasons why I'm optimistic about Burrow, for the record.

Everything besides that makes me optimistic he will be a good QB.

- Physically impressive
- All reports from OSU were that he was contending for starter
- Football pedigree
- Athletic
- All reports he's a great kid, leader, and possesses great work ethic
- Coached by Urban Meyer for 3 years
- Graduated college in 3 years, while being full time athlete. That takes serious dedication, maturity, and effort.

However, his performance in blow-out mop up duty and the spring games certainly doesn't do anything to damper my optimism, even if it isn't the source of it.

To be fair, it seemed like we blitzed 75% of the time in our Spring Game

Chaisson was chasing QBs all day.

I was admittedly high on Harris.

He seemed to have all the physical skills, but the maturity was never there.

Burrow is 22, not 19. That alone is a huge plus over the other 3 guys in the room.

Believe he was missing more than just maturity lol. He never progressed from his freshman year to his senior year at UNC.

Wasn't maturity, it was nerves.

Guy panics under the lights. Every tool you could want in a QB and a smart kid, but he just didn't have it during games. Was apparently perfect in practices.

Going to laugh at you negative fricks when Burrow is best qb in the SEC this year. Burrow has the “it” factor and has a football IQ that is double any qb on this roster.

I doubt any other SEC team can say that, right?
