not sure if you're serious, but I can't read minds on what he "meant"

where's your heart and competive spirit?
What do you think leads most to transfer?
That spirit you are talking about makes them want to play and compete on the field.
If you have that spirit and are running second team, you stay. If you have that spirit and are running third team, you transfer.
You have to be partially brain dead after this spring to think that kid had any shot of jumping to second team. He read the handwriting on the wall even if some of us refuse to.

First off all it would take is one injury to move to second team.
Then you are in a situation where who knows.
Having high hopes for certain players and positions is not a bad thing ,,, but until they prove themselves that's all it is ...high hopes.
So no I don't really understand the transfer.
Prob more to story than we are aware of.

There is no reason Rettig isn’t starting over Jennings or Harris. He’s a pocket passer but he isn’t as bad as that statue Mettenberger, and he has more chest than that punk Gunner Kiel. Hell if Cam Cameron had any balls he would tell Les Miles to stay the hell out of his offense. He sure as hell is better than JJ and JL ever where! If Saban was still running things he would be starting! Alleva should have stepped in years ago and replaced Miles hell and while he was at it he should have fired Javi! I mean yeah Perrilloux screwed the program for years, but you can’t blame the BBQ and chief Studrawa on him. That mess was all Miles fault! At least if Retting was starting it might justify the ridiculous ticket prices! Hell with how much we pay for tickets and TAF I don’t know why they have to ruin the scoreboards by pimping Coke! Hell if we could keep decent QB’s maybe the stupid admins would stop banning the band from playing shite like neck! And maybe we could keep the sorry assed fans in their seats the whole game! Of course the shite parking, lousy traffic, and overpriced crap they serve in the concession stands don’t help either! Oh but we are going to add more seats for corporate interests! Hell it’s not like that crap is going to be ready in time anyway! I mean we managed to keep and start bums Jamie Howard and always crippled Harvard washouts like Andrew Hatch. Why can’t this program give a future star like Rettig a fair shot at starting! It’s because he’s white…and everybody knows Miles is racist and only plays black QB’s!

So, you think Rettig should stay and pin his hopes for playing time on a teammates injury?
If a third string guy is going to go, now is the time he should go. It has a lot more to do with common sense than not showing heart. The percentage of guys running third on the depth chart ever seeing significant playing time when the two ahead of him are as young or younger than him is not worth his gamble. And he would have to be a real a-hole teammate to think that way.

You might have a point if any of us knew exactly what to expect from the qb position.
We don't.
You don't.
I don't.
No one does bc we haven't seen anything to speak of.

Correct, I don't know how good the kid was, but a pocket type QB with a strong arm seemed to thrive under Coach Cam last year. I'm not a fan of the dual threat QB simply because I like to see teams air it out the way we did last year. I am not however trying to compare this kid to Mett. That being said, you are right, we really don't have any sample size to make a judgment, but that's why CM and Cam make the big Bux

Late to this, best of luck to him.

I did like them both, I do like the Pro style pocket system better. I wouldn't call either of those 2 guys you mention pure dual threat QBs. Just my opinion.
I also believe that if we would have had a great D, comparable to 2011, LSU would be going into this season as defending national Champs, again, just my opinion.

threat to run, threat to throw... that's what dual threat is, and that's what flynn and mauck were, like it or not.

I prefer a ZM/JRussell caliber qb over a dual threat everyday of the week.
Especially when you players like objr, Landry, Dupree and TQuinn????
Not to mention having a JHill or LF running the ball.
Easy decision for me.
Seems to have worked pretty good for Alabama past few years.
I just like to have a guy who can throw the football well.
Hopefully these two we have can become prolific passers.

Yeah FSU sucked last year

That's cool.
When I see him do it when it matters like I saw ZM do it then I'll believe it.

Yep, you make a good point, but would you say there are QBs with good legs and a threat to run if they have to, but have very few designed run plays. It's not always so clear cut. I just like to watch a pocket passer pick Ds apart the way Mett did last year, mixed with good downhill running. Just what I like.
But yeah, any QB that can run away from defenders can be called a dual threat QB, if you wanna look at it that way.
