Exactly. Jim doesn't call it any differently than I think through a split-second play. His fault is he tries to be too quick with the call, which like I said, I appreciate over waiting a couple seconds for a vague summary of what happened on the play.

Go to a game...watch how many people in the crowd stand up on ANY long fly ball. I don't see why anyone ever makes fun of this when they do it themselves. I know I have and have had friends that have yelled "that's gone" numerous times and the ball was caught.

well no shite. but there is a big difference between fans in the stands and the person who is being paid the properly call the game. what a terrible comparison.

bull shite. Any fan of the game reacts with excitement...and announcers are fans as well. Oh let me guess you are probably a fan of Hanagrif and want some excitement less retard calling the game as boring as possible?? his "called strike 3" call is the worst call I have ever heard on the radio

I wouldnt say I'm a "fan" of hannagriff but Jim makes him look like Vin Scully.

there is nothing wrong with showing excitment on a call. In fact it's awesome. And when Hawthorne gets a big play correct he's great at it. But if you get it wrong in the process it's bad radio. No one is perfect, but Jim is wrong about as often as he's right these days. He's just way way past his prime and should have retired a half decade ago.

Ahh..the Jack Hunt reference. Not that that has been overplayed or anything. Did you think of that all by yourself

The Jack Hunt reference is overplayed yet saying, "Did you think of that all by yourself," isn't?

I agree he is past his prime...but has earned the right to retire on his own terms. His replacement will make the same errors...I usually overlook slips of the tongue and stuff but I can't wait to call out the new guy when he takes over

I don't know about you but I didn't immediately think fair and neither did the umpire. I can't wait until the next guy is some monotone jackass and yall have to swallow your tungs.

Jim has been a living legend at LSI for 32 years, and is now 71 years old. I remember in the 80's when we were playing in an SEC Basketball tournament game and the game before us went into overtime and he was scheduled to start his radio broadcast, and with no programming to fill in he decided to do the other game's paly by play and was better than their announcers.
I suggest you give him a BREAK. You slow down a bit when you get older. If your fortunate enough to get there you will see!

In his defense the 3rd base Ump seemed a little late on the signal Fair.

Was going to say that as well. It looked like he was going to call if foul, Hell I thought the same thing.

Hawthorne is way above average when it comes to college PBP guys.

Him being horrible has been greatly exaggerated on this board. I have listened to him many times and have never heard him say "there is a long foul ball and its caught by the 2nd sacker".

Difference of opinion. I think he's well below average.

The moment I wanted to kill Jim was in the 2012 South Carolina series, second game of the doubleheader. Take it away Jim (scrub to 45:10)

Homerun that was caught by Rhymes.

Give him a break how? I'm not suing the guy. I'm just stating an opinion. And yes part of the reason he's awful is not his fault as we all get old.

He is objectively terrible when it comes to baseball. It's not really a big deal for me anymore, personally, as I've only had to listen to about 5 innings of a game this year and won't have to listen to any going forward. But there's no way you can say he's not terrible at calling baseball games. He doesn't have a strong knowledge of the game, he can't see and he turns into a petulant little girl if the game goes longer than 2 hours.
