My baseball knowledge is fine.

I'm not one of the ones nitpicking the simple mistakes either. I'm asking for him to do a better job of telling the listener what is going on. He doesn't do that very well lately and I count on him often.

He was never very knowledgable when it came to baseball, but he seems to have lost interest in the last 3-4 years. Charlie gets the job done and I would support him taking over.

I know this is all lost on you because there's no such thing as an objective conversation when it comes to Hawthorne. Every time this thread pops up, you start calling people retarded because they don't like him. It's not that big of a deal to me in the grand scheme of things, but seeing as this is an opinion-based message board, there's my opinion

I agree. I think it is because baseball requires better eyesight and although JH bleeds purple and gold, his eyesight is failing him.

I've never heard an announcer going by the scoreboard for balls & strikes. And I doubt that he was not able to see the home plate ump from his seat in the booth.I respect him for all that he's done for LSU & have no doubt of his love for the Tigers, but he's getting past his prime. He had the incorrect count on balls & strikes wrong all nite long. I don't hold the Jacoby Jones strike out/interference call against him, or Raph's catch, as those are just baseball plays that happen in the heat of the game & apparently the home plate ump was not very demonstrative on the call against JJ. This was a big game last nite & the play announcing was below par.
