I used to work in the Printing Industry throughout HS and College...specifically with the large Heidelberg Presses and in Pre-Press which is in the design and mock-up portions.
I could explain to our friend Moot that it was a design flaw and a business decision but he still wouldn't believe me. They could have stretched it, enlarged it, or rotated that bastard to any degree they wanted.
Boom goes the mother f'in dynamite.
Thank you sir.

Guys, I'm flattered, such a great group and variety of responses...quite impressive!
Would love to take the time to respond to each and every one, But...Oh, Yeah, I have a LIFE!
Did love the "e-badass" tag from Lsut81 though, That was witty..!
It's been fun albeit futile, to attempt to bring logic, reason, common sense, and prospective to this thread.
True, I should have known better...
In retrospect, obviously a waste of time, but fun none the less.
Hope y'all all have a great time at the next Star Trek convention!

I gave you an answer; stop bitching and get out of this thread. These people have a right to complain because it was a management decision by whoever created the mock-up.
I have no idea what you have been arguing. That technology has its limits? If the Advocate did indeed upgrade their presses in 2006 either one or two things happened:
1) They bought all new presses and spent in excess of 5-8M Dollars easy.
2) They bought used presses which is common. We sold one of our old Heidelbergs when the shop downsized for 550K back in 2003 and that bastard was 30 yrs. old.
Point being, the old one put out great quality but just needed regular maintenance. In fact, today you don't even need a press to run that. Get you a docu-tech and you can run whatever the hell you want.
Printing technology today is so far advanced then it was just 5-7 years ago that there is no excuse why they couldnt run it in whatever dimensions they desired.

No, its just ignorance. Claims he used to work for the Advocate but knows nothing about the printing side, but will still claim knowledge though he probably ran the delivery route. I don't jump in many arguments unless I know what I'm talking about. This just so happens to be one of those few that I do.

Cajun, you work at a print shop in BR? I worked at one about 10 years ago and worked with a docu tech then...it was a badass machine way back then, i cant imagine what they can do now

In HS and College I was really involved in the trade. I started out in bindery in HS but eventually worked my way through college learning all the different parts (Bindery, PrePress, Industrial Folding and Cutting, Match Mailing, Letterhead (forget the machines name), etc.). Basically alot of the things we offered in our shop. Got out of the biz when I graduated college a couple years ago.
We had a relatively medium sized shop but it closed down formally to outside printing in 2004 but still did in-house printing. They went solely to docu techs made by IBM since then and they are very badass. I stopped by the shop about 6 months ago and they now have two of those bad boys and they put out some serious prints.

I had mine framed and picked it up today. I had a friend come over and look at them on the wall and asked him if he 'noticed' anything different between the posters. He looked at them for like 5 minutes and never noticed the size difference. I'm sure the OCD side of you will always notice that one minor difference and it will drive you into a hair pulling, wrist cutting frenzy. Go out, meet someone, and get laid. It will help you forget about the 2"x1" size difference in your LSU Championship poster. Or you could spend the next 50 years of your life driving yourself insane over why the advocate has messed up your poster wall. That's the kind of stuff that drives people to bomb government buildings.

Was your friend kige, because I had a three year old tell me that the last one didn't match the others in under a minute

They are the same frame size, same matting color, same frame. The size difference is noticeable, but no one would notice it unless they were looking for it. Just bring the posters to a framing studio and they can work the matting sizes so that they are hard to notice. I'll post a picture of mine later so that you can see. I've got larger matting so the size difference isn't as noticeable.

quote:Here is the response that i just got from the advocate.
Johnny, I’m so sorry you are disappointed. The size of the “poster” reflects the current size of our newspaper page. Over the years, we have reproduced many of these “famous” front pages – for all types of events – from the shooting of Gov. Huey Long, to the beginning (and end) of WWII, from the moon landing to LSU’s 2007 football championship. All of these reprints are the size of the paper at that time (we’ve got quite the assortment of sizes on our walls here). These reprints were and still are intended as mementos of these memorable events and The Advocate’s coverage of the events. If you have experienced any of these events, then the front page has a special meaning – just a little reminder of the emotions you felt at that time. As you know, in the 1990s we began offering reprints associated with LSU’s baseball championships (again offered in the size of the newspaper page at that time). Over the years we have received many requests for different size prints – everyone has some special size that would work best for their situation. Regrettably, we are unable to handle that type of order. Since we launched our new presses at the end of 2006 our reprints have, of course, matched the new size. In actuality that size identifies immediately the “era” of the reprint. The same happens when LSU changes fonts in their logo or uses a different “Tiger” in their official merchandise – if you’re a real fan you know immediately which championship your souvenirs are from. EVERY DAY I have contact with dozens of LSU fans from throughout the country and they are thrilled to have some memento of the game coverage to hang on their wall. Since you are here in Louisiana you are lucky – you get the coverage first hand. I realize that none of this will change your opinion. As you know, newspapers are big believers in the first amendment and that guarantees us both the right to disagree on this one. Sincerely, Charlene Robert Marketing Manager The Advocate Baton Rouge, LA
