nah, if he was that good he would have been out there. i remember when he was signed he was supposed to be a project. he has a role on the team and he's gonna get his degree and seems to enjoy being at LSU. props to him.

No QB was going to perform very well in that game for LSU. The field conditions dictated a running attack. We got the win, be happy.

If you're going with a backup, usually a dual threat is better IMO because indecision by someone with legs with a read can still mean yards on the ground. With Rivers indecision means a sack because he's as slow as Mett.

Well, in the Arkansas game Jennings showed attributes of a natural QB and you could see why he was #2. He showed excellent pocket presence, accuracy and composure. That all disappeared against a decent D in Iowa. It might be because it was his first start after all. It's hard to judge a freshman QB in his first start ever in a shitty environment to play in and a decent defense. In case nobody else noticed, LSU's gameplan was incredibly vanilla. Spare me the bullshite about the secret playbook but it was obvious Les was doing this because he knows he opens against a top 25 team next year.

Iowa was simply outclassed and LSU saw it on film. Their plan was to grind them out into the 4th and take the game away and that's exactly what they did. A typical Les Miles gameplan against an inferior team. The gameplan was to protect Jennings in a sloppy environment and not ask him to do too much to win. At the same time, it wouldn't expose our offense for next year. Jennings slung it in the Arkansas game because we had no other choice but to do that in order to win.

You will see a different offense and Jennings come opening game this year. The basic philosophy will still be there but it will have some new wrinkles. Book it.

It begs the question though. If Rivers is that poor of a choice why is he still on scolly and the team. Is he being groomed as a coach then?

Because Miles isn't Saban and he doesn't process kids

After the Arky game, how do you not give AJ the start? Next year could well be another question.

the coaches would be playing rivers if they thought it benefitted the team more

Look. I'm sure Rivers is a good kid and heck, maybe he's being mis-evaluated. But, if a kid who has been here as long as him gets beat out by the new true freshman in Spring practice, it is a pretty telling piece of information. Especially if that new incoming freshman, while good, wasn't exactly considered the top QB recruit in the nation.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised based on the above information to see Rivers fall farther down the depth chart this coming season.

Mett had shitty games too time to time.

Go rewatch the North Texas game or the UF, USCe, TAMU games that he stunk up in back to back to back weeks. Or perhaps the Clemson game with a whole years playing time plus 3 years in college total where his stat line read

14/23 120yds 1 td 1 int, 6 rush -41 yds

Jennings against a top 10 defense with no prior playing time but a 99 yard drive and one year of college

7/19 82yds 1 int, 5 rush -31 yds

Both Rivers and Bolden will hang around until they graduate then I think they can transfer without sitting out a year if they start grad school or something like that.

The Oregon QB transferred to OM in a similar case.

Its a 3 horse race and AJs until spring starts. BH seems to have a lot of swag and confidence. HR needed an extra year. Were in good position for 2014.

Rivers could be setting up for a coaching position as well.

AJ held the ball too long and was sacked 4 times in the bowl game. Inexperience likely the reason but AJ was not using his legs much.

Hes not complaining about the W assholes. I cant stand that people cant ask a simple question without figs telling them to be quiet or they're negative. Fair question by OP, nothing wrong with this discussion.

You're a huge fricking moron. Sure, it was vanilla, but do you really think it was because he was worried about NEXT frickING YEAR? Dear God you're a moron. Holy shite. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that he had a completely inexperienced quarterback.

God you're an idiot.

Here's a novel idea. Maybe, it's because coaches, including a very good offensive coordinator, are constantly evaluating them during practice? Nah, that would be too simple.

Probably because the staff is grooming AJ? That's my guess.

only explanation...the staff must see possible greatness in AJ and until someone else steps up and does likewise it will be his job to lose.

Practice reps?

and how many of them were with 1team? the best thing that could happen for LSU is for one or more of our qb's to step up their game so we have solid qb competition and strength in numbers. unless I missed something, the qb comp should be wide open come spring. AJ has the edge, but anything can happen.
