The Advocate sports paper this morning and 104.5 crew this morning appear to contradict each other. 104.5 made clear it was Aranda’s schemes and not LSU’s spread that was causing the problem. However in The Advocate sports, Coach O appeared to be taking some of the blame for LSU’s defensive schemes. 104.5 made no mention of Orgeron being partly responsible for going with certain defensive schemes. They directly pointed to Aranda. Who is right?

I trust you Hanny more than anyone else on the TD. Tell us what you know, is Coach O covering for Aranda, or is he partly responsible for the schemes they went with vs Texas.

None of this matters.

The blame game is out of control.

Rantards: "Who deserves blame for this win over a top-10 team on the road?"

Well he is the head coach and I would expect him too.

They both are.

Does it matter? I swear some of you dwell on this stuff like you think you're part of the staff. When you should just sit back and enjoy the show.

It’s about time for Aranda to earn his money. Whether it’s poor tackling or schemes, LSU isn’t winning a title with his current defense.

If you're going to reference the article at least provide some quotes from it.
quote:

LSU junior safety JaCoby Stevens said the Tigers have learned a lesson after giving up the most passing yards in nearly a decade.

At first it will sound cliché. Glib, even.

"I feel like we need to respect our opponents," Stevens said Monday.

quote:

Orgeron had his defensive linemen execute what he called a "cage rush," in which the linemen bull rush their blockers to box in the opposing quarterback. Chaisson was also sent off the edge to jam another blocker into the pocket, creating pressure on the quarterback.

quote:

He tabled the attacking scheme against Georgia Southern's gun option in Week 1, and Orgeron said Monday if he could go back and plan the Texas game again "I would go ahead and rush them the whole time."

He has done that time and again. O would be toast without him on staff.

If that's the bar, a bunch of coaches should be fired every year.

We all know we have to be damn near perfect to win it all AND be lucky, so yes, some are worried the defense could possibly allow Bama or Clemson to out score us.

Let it go.
Move on.
We won.

Let's see if the defense makes adjustments and improves over the next 4-5 weeks.

There's also this...
quote:

Instead, LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda came up with another formation within the same game plan to create a pass rush (pictured right). It used two defensive linemen — Lawrence and Justin Thomas — who drew double teams from both guards and tackles. Inside linebacker Patrick Queen blitzed inside to draw the Texas center toward the left side of the field, which left open a free lane for Chaisson to stunt inside and sack Ehlinger.

quote:

"It was a good job by Dave," Orgeron said. "Dave kept working throughout the game, scheming to get a pass rush, and he finally got a couple of little breaks there at the end."

O called the "Cage Rush" a failure in his post-game interview (and he seemed pissed about it).

As I understand it, the cage rush is a containment tactic. The rushers make no attempt to break away from the D-linemen they engage with. Instead they form a "cage" that is designed to keep the QB from escaping out of the pocket.

Any D-Line guys out there that can put a finer point on this attempt at a description?
