Notre Dame doesnt play anyone in the top 15.

Therefore, they SHOULD go 10-2. Most of their opponents are going to be in the ALSO GOT VOTES grouping.

The contract requires them to go a BCS game if they are 9-3 and in the top 16.

Saying they will be #16 is another way of saying, they go to a BCS game.

That was the last year the SEC was affiliated with Indy.

BTW, it's not a preseason poll. It's what he thinks the rankings will be at the end of the year.

Don't blame Phil. He is the reporter not the architect.

I'd say 8 or 9 wins is quite do-able, which, given Notre Dame's unbelievable BCS deal

Info is inaccurate...

ND must win 9 games to automatically qualify for a BCS.....

every year there schedule supports the theory that they should meet this goal..... yet they under achieve....

frick ND and their contract...

+1

I hate Notre Dame and hate that they got Kelly. He will actually turn them into a good program so they won't just be living off the glory days of a century ago.

Tigers are going to have to prove they belong in the top 10! QB play will be critical!

Think we'll go 8-4 in the reg season. Losses @USC and Pitt at home, and two out of these five will be L's: @MSU, Stanford, @Boston College, Navy, Utah

I think KC's OC. Good spot for him. Made it doubly shocking when they passed on Clausen in the 2nd round.

#16 seems awfully high, even though I agree that Kelly is huge upgrade. I'd rank them (with Kelly as coach) between 25 and 30. Steele mentioned that he has a lot of respect for Kelly, since Kelly's teams have finished ranked higher than his projected ranking for 6 straight years.

As for ND and the BCS "preference", this is really an overblown issue and interesting to see how whiny everyone gets. ND has never been selected for any BCS game when they have lost more than two games in a season. Yet there is at least 1 team just about every year that gets to playin a BCS game with more than 2 losses:

2009: Virginia Tech (9-4)
2008: Illinois (9-3)
2006: Florida State (8-4)
2005: Pitt (8-4)

and so on...

ND gets a lot of truly irrational hate. Their BCS qualifications are the equivalent of everyone else's.
