Link? Who's to say that we won't find another playmaker? As for Simon how many 6'3 shutdown corners do you see walking around?

Yeah we really didn't need those game changing punt returns against Arky or UGA to turn the momentum around, we won't miss the Badger one bit

quote:for what? If they had him,(another player like Mathieu) he would have surfaced already! My point is though that TM was that rare guy, like Ed Reed or Darren Sharper, that makes plays. I know Simon is a good cover corner with size, already stated that. But I'm answering your post about us not missing Mathieu much as if he did little, that is certainly not the case!
Link?
a good cover guy can always be found, playmakers, well that's a different story!

I think we would have been in a much worse situation defensively and it's not even close.

Dude TM7 was one of the most dominant defensive players LSU has ever had. He took over several games.

I'm looking at this from a defensive standpoint. Simon would have been a much bigger loss because Collins hasn't played a meaningful down and Mills, Thomas, and Raymond are all true freshmen.

Didn't both Simon and Mathieu play last year? Didn't Mathieu play the corner vs two back sets and Simon stood on the sidelines? That Chavis is such an idiot. Tigerdroppings posters say that Simon is better than Mathieu. Stupid coach is stupid.

Not a knock on TM7 at all, just don't see how he could have matched last year's productivity. He was other worldly. I truly believe this year was gonna be a tad more pedestrian given the loss of Mo locking down half the field.

Maybe they can review all TM7 videos and start teaching all their new DBs ball hawking abilities. There must be a tecnique there somewhere.

The OP is correct but not because TM7 was not the fantastic player we all know he was.
He is correct because Simons skills as an experienced cover corner are harder to replace.
TM7 was fantastic as the nickel corner. But it is a freelance read and react type position. It is the type of position an inexperienced player CAN step in and play pretty well. It's the reason TM7 played it as a freshmen.
If it had been Simon we would been left with a RS freshmen as a starting CB across from TM7 who is not a great cover corner (he's not a bad one either...but at 5'9 covering outside receivers is not his thing).
As it is we will have a young player starting at CB but he will rarely cover the other teams top guy.
