Guess some of us LSU fans are just 'delusion-ally optimistic' about the 2018 season

We've all seen it posted repeatedly that LSU will face 4 or possibly 5 teams in 2018 who have as great a defense as LSU's, so it basically boils down to the offenses and special teams, LSU's vs theirs, which on the surface doesn't sound appealing for most LSU fans. Tigers missed a lot of kicks last year and offensively struggled. That could easily mean five losses for LSU in 2018 maybe more with this schedule, Miles somehow overcame schedules like this, Coach Orgeron will have to learn to.

However lets' break it down a bit before overreacting and assuming the worse, starting with special teams. LSU's got the top kicker, the no.1 player at his position in the nation entering college and playing for the Tigers. Facing any team, it's not really delusional to say, advantage LSU here!

Perhaps I'm just a delusion-ally optimistic fan when it comes to playing Alabama, but here goes. Even though both D-lines appear equal, Alabama's defense has serious questions to resolve regarding their secondary and linebackers, where they lost two LB's to injury. LSU's secondary and linebackers look ready for the NFL now. So advantage LSU here!

Again maybe I'm just a delusion-ally optimistic fan when it comes to playing Ga, but GA's defense allowed Choklahouma to score 45 points or so in nearly 3 quarters of the 2018 Rose Bowl and Ga doesn't appear to have improved much since the NFL draft. Unlike LSU after previous NFL drafts, this 2018 LSU defense appears bigger, stronger and more loaded at every position. So, advantage LSU here!

Yet again maybe I'm just being a delusion-ally optimistic fan, but Miami in 2017 started with Bethune Cookman, Toledo and Duke, even after playing basically three scrimmage games Miami could barely scrape by a pitiful Fla St.team, Ga. Tech, Syracuse and North Carolina, it was only after that stretch where Miami showed any real improvement. Miami's only truly credible win was against ND, which admittedly they won handily. The only defense Miami faced last year, that's anywhere comparable to this year's LSU defense is Clemson where Miami lost 3-38! Again it appears advantage LSU here.

Realistically, it's hard for anyone to gauge LSU's 2018 offense, whether it's a huge liability or not after their scrimmages vs LSU's Titans on defense, but doing so can only mature the LSU offense, and the players only meeting recently could prove to be vital in having everyone more focused and ready to contribute as a team on day one, mainly LSU's offensive players who clearly need more focusing, with so many new faces. But make no mistake, the talent is there on offense, it's everywhere.

There are many LSU fans like myself who appear delusion-ally optimistic about 2018 football, maybe we have reason to be, maybe it just comes with the territory.

There are 11 more days until the 6:30 kickoff. Why not just create all 11 now instead of making a new one of these same ones every day?

It's not an overreaction to look at the first 9 games and see a 4-5 record during that stretch.

What IS an overreaction though, is people talking about a 10 win season against one of the toughest schedules we've had in years coupled with an offense that is arguably worse at every position compared to last season.

A 6 win season is an entirely plausible and reasonable scenario.

I agree it's not. But it's also not a stretch to think LSU's 2018 defense might be its advantage over these same teams.

This is the precise time of year that we cast off a whole off season of negativity and proclaim that "this is the year!" only to get our newfound hopes crushed within two months.

Been an LSU fan my whole life and I've only seen "this is the year!" happen twice. Both times I did not expect it heading into that year. So maybe this is another pinnacle year, as my expectations aren't exactly sky high.

It absolutely will be. However, LSU's defense has always been it's saving grace. I just don't trust their defense to be able to carry the entire load against this schedule.

Bama and Georgia are going to be juggernauts
Auburn is going to be really good.
Miss State is returning a TON of starters/upperclassmen
Miami, isn't a gimme either

Assuming we beat Florida in Gainsville (which I'm not sure we do), we are looking at 5 losses through the first 9 games.

Rice and Arky should be wins.
aTm, I'm not sure what to expect.

We've always had hype surrounding new QB's, but after so many let downs, I'm betting against LSU's offense being a difference maker until they prove me wrong.

I guess you disagree with the prediction that LSU's defense will be 6th in the SEC.
