It wasn't so lame that the guy took the ball..it was the way he looked doing it.
Maybe he was in parade mode.

Maybe. The guy looked like he was cussing the kid after the kid appeared to tell him that he was an a-hole. This dude bit back twice as hard and was taking no prisoners.

I thought maybe it was PJ.

Nothing wrong with an adult going for a ball. It might be that the guy has only had limited opportunities to go to games and has never caught a homerun ball. The kid still has a lot longer in life to get one, if he doesn't already have one. Some of those little brats don't deserve any sympathy

Maybe more specifications should be made as I think many of you are thinking this was a ball hit into a crowd.

The HR landed in an empty patch of grass/dirt behind the wall. The ball laid there for a while. It looked like the kid was awaiting permission to jump the barricade and go get it. This old dude ran from literally 100 yards away - my guess is from the left-center field bleachers. He got it about 1.5 seconds before the kid had finally gotten to it. He was in a nice trot until the final 30 yards, which became a full onward sprint. I think I heard him mutter, "No retreat. No surrender" during the final 30 yards.

Then they looked like they were having an argument about it 2-3 minutes later. The guy was yelling through the fence at the lil kid.

thing is the kid should not have waited. He needed to hop that barrier and go get the ball. I think he was waiting for his dad (who also had doubt) to go get the ball.

but the guy should have gave the ball to the kid.

Yeah, I admit...the kid learned a lesson about being indecisive.

You know what? Good for that old dude! I am so sick and tired of todays parents coddling these kids. Really, it's ridiculous. No more dodge ball because SOME kids might get their feelings hurt. All of this "every kids makes the team because the coach doesn't want to bruise a 12 year olds vulnerable ego" is just why our society is in the condition it is in.Kids today sit in their rooms playing X Box and all the other trash, when in my day, our parents told us to get the hell out of the house and go play outside! These 10-12 year old rich kids with their Blackberry's and cellphones really make me want to vomit! Pathetic, the old man got the ball, then so be it. Kids today need to start waking up and realizing mommy and daddy aren't going to be around forever to wipe their butts everytime they face a little adversity. We are raising a generation of pus*ies and its the parents fault!

That's the way it should be. But if I catch it, don't expect me to give it to your kid. Not gonna' happen...

Right on Russian. Nothing wrong with a little competition in a young kids life. Next time, he'll try a little harder to get that ball. Know what I mean?

It really has nothing to do with just young kids. I'd shove Mother Teresa down if she were trying to catch my foul ball.

Last year, I think we were playing Miss Valley St. I must have caught two foul balls in a matter of two minutes. I gave both away to little kids, but if they would have been HR balls it would have gone in my pocket case closed.
