And it depends on the pitcher also. If they’re wild, take. If they’re not, knock the cover off it

For a hitter as good as Crews, if he's in the box he can take a swing in 99% of the scenarios. Tie game, or down one, with bases loaded in the 9th is the only one I can think of where he should take.

Watch ten college games and tell me if you see anyone swing at a 3-0 pitch.

Give it up.

So if your nephew played for anyone but LSU, you wouldn’t watch him? frick off.

ULL is your common theme here. Do they have a Crews or Berry on that team? If not, that's probably why you think it NEVER happens.
No, but they have a guy hitting above .370 all year and .420 in conference and I don’t recall him swinging at a 3-0.

So you develop a theory based on two out of the over 100 games games played this weekend alone
No, I’ve watched several LSU games and numerous UL games this year. I just don’t see it. All I see is takes on 3-0.

How the hell would you know if the hitter got the green light or not?
Well when you see every player with a 3-0 count not swing at strikes right down the pipe, you can assume they were given the take sign.

The you’re not watching, you have the game on in the background.

The green light doesn’t mean swing, it means one pitc one spot then come out on your shoes

Based on your statement, you don’t watch or know much about baseball. Or you learned the game from usl

Except everyone in this thread is trying to tell you we do see it, and you're still arguing it never happens

I promise I have no dog in this fight. You seem like a decent enough dude. But from an outsider looking in, I’m cringing more and more as your posts go on and on.

Friendly advice was given to you earlier. Maybe step back from the thread, let it die down a bit, catch your breath, and if you still feel as strongly, revisit later.

Louisville played at 2:00 on Friday, shouldn’t have overlapped with watching the LSU game.

I may not watch as much baseball as some, but I just never see it happen.
quote:

When Padres phenom Fernando Tatis Jr. mashed a grand slam on a 3-0 pitch in a game against the Rangers on Monday night -- extending his team’s seven-run lead in the eighth inning -- it set off baseball’s latest debate over the unwritten rules.

Some, including the Rangers, took exception to Tatis cutting loose with a 3-0 count in that situation. Many others around the game rushed to the young shortstop’s defense.

Whatever your feelings about it, this much is certain: Things are changing when it comes to how players approach 3-0 counts. Attitudes are evolving. Behavior is shifting.

Here is a look at what hitters are doing in 3-0 situations, why taking remains the overwhelming choice and why swinging more often could pay huge dividends.

These are major leaguers, so they’re all fricking good hitters.

Hitting against MLB pitchers, who are all pretty good as well. They aren’t just serving up batting practice fastballs on 3-0. And it still doesn’t answer if the hitters were given the take sign or chose to take the pitch on their own.

Fair enough. But I’ve been watching a ton of baseball my whole life. And to your point, I see it happen. I don’t know how you define “a lot”, but depending on situations, such as strength of batter, score, etc. I would guess I see it at least once a game, considering both teams? At least.

And as someone pointed out, that’s only what you SEE. Hell, I bet Crews and Berry and Doughty have a permanent green light, and usually don’t do it because they don’t see the exact pitch, in the exact spot that they wanted it.

Call into JJ’s show and ask him the question.
