No I don’t.
Well who are we to get mad on their behalf then?
I wouldn't have as much of a problem with all the bitching if players were as upset as the fans are, but that's simply not the case.

Tell me what’s different about Greedy than anyone else on the team that has the possibility of getting drafted?
They only have one shot too. Why should they play?
Because the quantifiable risk is much smaller.

Apparently he was appropriately nicknamed ;)

I’m not mad.
I simply said he quit on the team. I personally think that’s a bad decision. You may disagree and say he should make every decision from a financial standpoint.
It’s hard to not think in that mindset, but I would hope if I was in that position someone older and wiser would give me better advice.

He’s no longer a Tiger, quit talking about him, next man up

Wrong
Each player has a chance to substantially change their life. How can you say Greedy’s chance is worth more?
We have already seen that a number 1 overall pick can go broke in a matter of years. So a higher draft pick doesn’t mean anything.

quote:Well no shite. He made poor life decisions. Making poor decisions will ruin any situation, no matter how good of a situation it is.
You have to be mature and make good decisions.
Just ask number 1 overall pick Jamarcus Russell. Dude is broke a frick. How did that big pay day work out for him.
Say Jamarcus had a good head on him. After he took that signing bonus, the kid could have never worked another day in his life if he didn't want to. Clearly Greedy won't get that type of money, but still.
Making this decision doesn't mean he has a bad head on him. He is doing what is in his best financial interest. At this point in his life that is the most important thing.

I actually don't care if they play or not. They have a very narrow window of earning potential as pro football players. They should protect it accordingly.

Never said he had a bad head, but you can still make a poor decision.
You hit the nail on the head, you said the most important thing in life is money. So of course you will disagree.
It’s been proven time and time again that money IS NOT the most important thing in life, how have you not learned that yet?

Hate the decision, but that’s a little much!

so Greedy is not a nick name.
Posted on 12/2/18 at 9:29 pm to slackster
quote:Exactly. Players like Greedy, Bosa, Fournette, etc. have essentially maxed out their potential draft value. Therefore the risk of continuing to play exceeds the reward of maybe improving your draft stock. It's the opposite for players that still have the opportunity to significantly improve their draft stock.
Because the quantifiable risk is much smaller.

The fact you think it's about commitment is naive IMO.
What? Lol.
quote:
It's about perceived risk, plain and simple.
I've already told you I understand his logic. Like I said, no one is confused on that. But also, like I said, many players, most actually, in similar situations finish the season. Why is that?
quote:
Ultimately we all know it's in the athlete's best interest to skip,
Then it would be in his interest to skip regardless of the caliber of the bowl game. It would be in his interest to skip the A&M game, or even sooner. Hell, it may be in his interest to let up on plays during the game. So I guess if it's in the player's perceived best interests it's beyond legitimate criticism.

No, Jamarcus is not broke. He didn't got invest and become a big time entrepreneur but he's living just fine in Mobile.
Posted on 12/2/18 at 9:37 pm to WaWaWeeWa
quote:I have learned that. But we are talking about this kids livelihood. He is making decisions to minimize his risk in order to achieve that.

At this point he is looking at football like a business instead of a sport. He thinks sitting out is the best business decision, and I agree.

He could have gotten hurt against A&M.
Yes, they were still playing for something at that point.
quote:
He could get hurt training for the combine.
Yes, but that would be in pursuit of the bigger prize, so that's a given risk.
Bowl games, especially since the playoff structure, are meaningless, especially for Greedy. This is a logical move, and a fine one at that. Hats off to him, a great Tiger season and a 1st Round Draft spot. Not bad at all.

Smart decision not to play in a meaningless bowl. Idk why fans get upset it allows playing time for guys who will play next year.
