Can this idea that Jimbo is garbage without Winston just go away?
If you get rid of that assumption, there are a couple of choices remaining:
a. Jimbo had one decent QB on the team. So he didn't recruit well for a number of years and we're back to Jimbo being garbage.
b. Jimbo goes into a season with a set plan, and if anything disrupts that he can't adjust and we're back to Jimbo being garbage.

Orgeron...case in point
Are you going to update your opinion when LSU beats Georgia next season?

correct, but you greatly reduce the risk if you hire a proven commodity, whether it's as head coach or any other job. You don't wait until he's here, with a big contract, to find out he's the wrong guy. Especially for head coach, which is critically important. I don't mind taking a flyer on a position coach once in awhile, but not for head coach or coordinator. This concept is common sense - I don't know why it's getting such push back.
It's a trade off. You're going to pay a premium for the proven commodity, but you're paying for the known performance. That guy has the leverage.
There's greater potential for value if you hit on an up-and-comer, but there's greater risk as well. But the offering school usually has the leverage, especially when they're a bigger program like LSU.
Depends on how well you trust your AD to evaluate a coach's skill set.
BTW, just found out that PJ Fleck's getting paid the same as Orgeron. That turns my stomach.

Yes, $3.5 million is less than the market rate....but we still didn't have to pay nearly that much. And certainly not with the buyout.

You act like this is a fool proof method when there’s a pretty long list of failures from existing head coaches.

if orgeron can't win more than 8 or 9 games a year then may as well give aranda a shot.
