Advocate Article

Once LSU offered a scholarship his sophomore year, Campbell’s decision was never much in question. He also considered Oklahoma, but relatives on both sides went to LSU. His dad’s family used to take a motorhome to games. There’s a picture of Campbell wearing an LSU helmet as a young boy.

“It's hard for me to believe as many kids leave the state to go elsewhere as they do,” said Campbell’s dad, Brian. “To me, if you grow up in Louisiana and you've got an opportunity to play at LSU, that's where you go play."

Definitely a need player to keep home.
Amazing how many are going out of state right now but the coaches are finding ways to fill in the gaps.

Recently, he mentioned to his dad that LSU had 60 days until the season opener. He was already thinking about the game, eager to get on the field and start his career.

“He wishes it was six days,” Campbell’s uncle said. “Not 60.”

I love this part
LSU tested Campbell in a group with seniors and junior college players. He had never tried a camp like that before. Campbell lunged on his first rep. An older defensive end swam past him.

“He got dust-rolled,” Bull said.

Campbell struggled the rest of the day. Afterward, then-head coach Ed Orgeron spoke to him.

“ ‘Look, I was prepared to offer you a scholarship,’ ” Bull recalled Orgeron saying. “ ‘But you didn't win a battle. You need to go home and think about this and come back to the next camp.’ ”

On the three-hour drive home, Campbell didn’t speak. He was so angry, tears welled in his eyes. Football makes him more emotional than anything else. He hates to lose.
Two weeks later, Campbell returned for another camp. He held his own this time, and LSU’s offer arrived that fall. One day, the family’s mailbox overflowed with recruiting pitches as he turned into one of the top recruits in the country.

"It bothers him that he wasn't ranked No. 1, you know?" Bull said. "Small things like that drive him a little more."

Sounds an awful lot like Joe Burrow’s mindset. A winner’s mentality is infectious in a locker room

Guys like this who we need. Talented and not entitled. Last coaching staff was more about recruiting talent, this staff is looking for talent and character. I think they have passed on some of the culture problem kids that are ranked high in state and nationally

That’s the foundational guys you need. With that wait until the NIL REALLY gets moving.

Many of those guys demanding the big dollars in NIL will not help the culture of college athletics not to mention a decent number will flop and those boosters are going to want something for their investment.

Wait - so what you’re saying is none of these 5* guys like Brown who just committed are good foundational guys? Because Brown has a NIL value ranking of 117K. He will get it.
Fournette was raised right by all accounts and a team player. Dude would have loaded up on endorsements.

Not what I am saying, but recruiting will have to do a real good background to determine if the investment up front is a safe risk. I think you will see the A@M class will fall apart sooner than later. They just hellbent on outspwnding others to bring in a very talented group. But they got some real potential character problems that along with coaching to keep them at 8-4.

He's a fellow Neville Tiger where we always had great pride in suiting up in black and gold to represent our Tiger pride for our hometown.

This will translate well to transitioning to the other powerhouse of football that is LSU.
