I don’t know whether he truly cares if they graduate, but there are plenty of reasons for him to care that they are staying on track:
- Team APR (academic progress rate) and the optics/pressure that come when it’s bad.
- Eligibility.
- Building a culture of accountability.
- More time spent on school = less time to frick up.
- Recruiting pitch to parents.
I think it’s more about overall team culture than it is about graduation, specifically. Just my opinion from the outside looking in, though.

Tail end of your career and you get a massive guaranteed contract. Pick the low hanging fruit (portal) and ride out mediocrity till you retire with$100,000,000. Where is the incentive?

Kelley is paid to coach football and win championships . If the players need academic help , that can be obtained for a lot less than 95 million dollars and a guaranteed 10 year contract .

Maybe you don’t know anything about self pride and ambition but most very successful people are driven by that as much or more than money.

Kelly makes 95 million over ten years with a guaranteed contract . It is my understanding LSU wants national championship football . If the players need academic tutoring , it can be obtained for a helluva lot less than 95 million . Kelly’s job is nat’l championship football .
