A very generous C. This team seemed to have enough "pieces" to be a tournament team, but Jones could not make it add up. Sure, our guards were small but it it is not as if we struggled just because other teams shot over the top of them. I could have lived with that. We struggled, sometimes mightily, with interior D and could not play man without getting in foul trouble, which doomed us on the road, even in games in which I thought we had a talent advantage. A disappointing season but I still have to give a passing grade because we went .500 in the league and had some decent wins. Plus, I think he has us on the right track with recruiting. If I recall his UNT record correctly, it took him a while to get things going there, but after some really bad seasons, they did pretty well.

Very disappointing year and expected a whole lot more. I hate excuses for underperforming, however we're locked in to him for at least 3 more years. We'll see how he progresses in that time.

I seldom see him exhorting his players during the came, correcting them, or otherwise try to alter their play during the game...which admittedly must be pretty hard to do
that's just what I see

Bad defense, inconsistent team play. Anxious to see how the team looks next year with JOB gone and the new recruits coming in(Gray, Elbert Robinson). Plus, Hornsby is eligible. Hope Keith is Marshall Henderson-like without the white trash look and attitude.

team's lack of fundamentals and lack of emotion namely away from home was downright disturbing all year. defense was non-existant much of the season which is disappointing. getting pushed around by mediocre teams. poor halfcourt execution vs zone defenses.
he continues to recruit well, but its hard to spin anything as positive other than the returning talent. will that talented be molded and put in position to succeed? who knows at this point.

Good to see the rant in agreement on a topic for once. Very refreshing fellas.

I absolutely give him an F. I think this team has the talent to make the NCAA tournament, but they showed tremendous amount of inconsistency, and JJ did not improve his in game coaching as the season went on. They most likely won't make the NIT in an extremely weak conference, so he definitely gets an F.

The results on the floor were disappointing this year at times, for sure. But I think next year with Simmons coming in, you are going to see a 12-6 SEC team.
Simmons won't be here until the 15-16 season. By that time Mickey and Martin very likely won't. Simmons is a great prospect, but he can't (and unfair to expect) make up for numerous on-court problems by himself

He gets a C- from me.
The good: he brought in some talent and generated some excitement around the program.
The bad: we had some absolutely horrendous losses that wound up keeping us off the bubble (Rhode Island, Ole Miss, Bama, at Kentucky)
The ugly: pisspoor use of timeouts, too much living & dying by JOB offensively, inconsistent ball movement and not enough use of screens offensively, PISSPOOR defense, poor player awareness (i.e. Stupid fouls), refusal to use the press in situations that would have benefitted us, or waiting too late to use the press to try & get back in the game, no improvement as a team, poor transition defense.
That's enough for now. Bottom line is they underachieved by a pretty fair margin

You are an idiot as is anyone giving an F in anything!
Was the year disappointing in that we didn't make the dance? Yes. Did JJ make mistakes in bench coaching? Yes.
The power players improved and the guards, who were here when JJ came, remained mediocre in shooting the ball, handling penetration, and dishing the ball.
Our guards were 6-21 from the field, 4-13 from three point range, shot 40% from the line, and had six assist for the game with four TOs.
If we had solid, consistent, guard play this year we make the tourney.

espn just did a sports science piece with izzo where they monitored his stress during a game. I wish they would have done that with JJ

I made it to a few games this season. Due to his lack of coaching ability I'd give him a D-. It just goes to show that you can have good talent but if you don't have a coach who can lead/motivate and make legit in game adjustments then you won't ever be a great team. His personel grouping boggled my mind most of the season. The whole passing it around the perimeter on offense and then firing off last minute shots really pissed me off. Most of the time our offense looked like a church league team. On defense, it looked like we didnt even have pride in guarding one on one so then he switched it to a zone where we would give up wide open jumpers on a consistent basis. This season was a huge let down.

I'll give him a middle C for his bench coaching and season. He still gets a B for recruiting although a lot of recruits weren't as good as advertised. Of course who was doing the advertising. Mostly the guys here on the Rant. I still remember all the posts that said Odo was going to be the greatest rebounder, defender LSU had ever seen. To me this is one of the main things that sank the ship. Lack of bench strength. We had a solid starting five and Stringer. After that it was very shaky. Quarterman had flashes but overall had way too many turnovers and missed shots. Malik Morgan just has not improved at all and I think this is his fault for not working hard enough in the off season to develop his dribbling, ball handling, shooting skills. I am very disappointed in Darcy Malone and Hammink. Darcy just could not play defense and Hammink never has enough confidence to take a shot or make an aggressive move.
I do still have hope for CJJ. He has players with promise coming in to go with what we already have. As others have pointed out, a smart young assistant coach would be a plus at this point. But think of where the program was. He has pulled it from an incredibly miserable laughing stock to respectability. Hickey makes a few more of those last second shots and we win three more games and have a solid winning season.

C- seems fair . In my opinion , I feel we underachieved .
