LSU's offensive woes the first 3 quarters are BK's fault alongside his puppet Denbrock. Their refusal to make throws over the middle is part of the scheme he runs. He did the same thing at ND. Loves to throw on the outside. The long developing plays for 3 quarters were part of this problem for Daniels but in fairness, he also had checkdowns he wasn't using in the flat. Adjusted way too late which is why they started shredding them in man coverage on passes over the middle. Unquestionably this failure is on the entire coaching staff. Terrible all around.

This is a rebuild but I believe the culture is starting to take shape. The team fought til the end and the coaching did make adjustments albeit almost too late but they did change the playcalling on the last few offensive drives.

Most on here, me included, said coaching alone would improve our team and this staff would have won a few games the old staff would not. I believe we have a good coach and things will get better. But man was that disappointing to watch. Great resolve and comeback. But snaps. O line play. Personal fouls. Special teams. The teams demeanor going in at half. His sort of rambling in his post halftime interview.
I’ll give him a D. But think we still made the right hire. He inherited shite AND everything that could go wrong went wrong. Which is an excuse. I think he’ll right the ship.
This is a really good take

I’ll bump him up to a C- because the 4th quarter showed a lot of promise imo.
I also happen to think FSU isn’t near the doormat we all assumed they’d be. They have talent on that team now, and Norvell is an exciting young coach.
Not saying they are a playoff team or anything but I think they are absolutely similar to the SEC teams we’ll see before November.
Going to take some lumps this season for sure, and losing Maason is a real downer.
But looking forward to seeing how this team and staff respond and improve.

If he is building for next season, why is he only playing a QB who cannot find open receivers, and will only be here one year.

D+. Not at all what I expected. Two blocked kicks is not what 10M buys a program.

F. Not because we lost, but because we looked poorly prepared and he looked lost on the sidelines.

If they cannot get a real QB, meaning an above average passer who can really read a defense, it will be nothing but offensive futility. Not sure JD has those skills.

Which les Miles team? I don't remember Miles ever having to start a season with a sandlot team.
How many players from '19 & '20 classes left on team? How many of those starting?
How many starters have been with team more than 2 years?
it would not surprise me at all if CBK went into first game thinking -- ok, keep my cool, stay calm, these players barely know each other. first time they get put under game pressure together. we finally get a honest account of what we truly have.
and to me, that's how the game unfolded on LSU's part

He did not cause the coaching shortfalls that were evident.
I agree about previous staff. Look, after 2019, we lost 17 starters...some simply just quitting and sitting out. Then lost Brennan, etc When that happens, you lose leadership. And when that happens, you lose the players and recruiting takes a hit.
All that said, BK got hired before the bowl game last year. It's astounding to me the way things were in disarray and again, completely undisciplined.
I expect losses this year. But when we do I figured at a minimum we'd be qell coached and disciplined.
We weren't, and that has zero to do with skill level
interesting
now explain why the group Brad Davis coaches isn't the bright spot in all that?

These players are new to this particular system, new to the coaches, and some don't even have any experience.
very well said, on top of system, coaches and lack of experience, they are also new to each other.
got to trust the system
got to trust the coaches
got to trust each other
most new coaches can lean on the the bond (trust) between players to get their system in place
CBK and staff didn't even have that.

Working with Ed O’s leftovers first and foremost. Managed to come within a blocked xp of OT after 2-3 quarters of dog shite football.
Special Ed was able to beat Florida, A&M, and miss state last year while coming very close to beating Bama, Auburn, and Arky
So special Ed would have played a terrible FSU team close as well, if not outright won. And special ED did all that with two brand new coordinators as well last year…..
BK has time to improve and it’s far too early to declare him a failure, but in the 1st game there was zero improvement. That’s just a fact

It will be intriguing how he is able to turn this into a learning situation for both the coaches and the players moving forward. I'm not expecting to beat bama this year, but definitely am expecting to see a steady improvement each week and to take that momentum into next year.

Going into this game, I thought I would see a team that was prepared to play, knew their assignments, played with discipline (i.e. no selfish personal foul penalties), played hard, and played for sixty minutes. In other words, I thought I would see a well coached team that might lose because of better talent on the other side of the ball.
LSU played hard and did play to the end (but there were lapses in intensity throughout the game). Other than that, the team was not ready to play. And when you get paid 9.5m, you don't get the benefit of what I saw Sunday night. That being said, I like Kelly and at least he acknowledged that this falls on his shoulders. He was quick to acknowledge it and took the blame. A lot of 9.5m coaches would not. I would much rather have Kelly that FSU's idiot.
Let's face it, the cupboard is bare. Regardless of how that happened, it is. But LSU will be fine. Secondary play was actually pretty good. LBs were not a factor. O-line as atrocious but will get better. As it does, QB play will improve and offense will come along with the playmakers we do have. I am not trying to sugar coat the fact that we have a lot of issues or the fact that Kelly did not do his job in week 1. He knows that and I fully expect that to change.
