Don’t even care. Ran down some rather routine fly balls and then jumped at the end. Nothing special

He have any availability?

I assume you mean eligibility. The scoreboard had him listed as a redshirt senior, so I would say no.

He catches the pop up in 2nd inning Stanfield whiffed on. That was a can of corn and he wasn’t within 5 feet of it

This is a routine play that he didn’t have to do all those theatrics over. Really good defensive CFs do not do this

This is a nice running catch but again, really good CFs do not slow down, do that weird pirouette, and jump up for this ball. They just run under it and catch it.

His jumps and routes were really good. Agreed he put a little unecessary sauce on a couple of them ala Chris Hilton, except unlike Hilton he actually still cauught them.

Go back and watch Dylan Crews do something similar in Omaha.

Dylan Crews' instincts were much much better than this kids.

Feel free to review the play. Look where he runs from. The jump was a calculated measure to absorb wall contact. He didn't jump and flop around unncessarily like the UALR CF. This is what a confident, instinctual OF'er looks like

Jumping when you don’t have to means you aren’t a great defensive OF’er

I figured I;d be the only one to notice that about him. There wasn't one play where he had to jump that I can remember, but he jumped at least four times in the two games against us. This is a phenomenon across baseball at all levels, with guys trying to make plays look harder than they are, to look cool.

Because idiots here downvote posters for no other reason than that they don't like them. They sure as hell don't understand how to catch a flyballwhere outfileders don't have enough time to settle under for the catch. Turning a flyball that can be caught on the run into a diving catch is no different than a WR adjusting his stride to high point a ball or a basketball player adjusting his stride to catch an Alley-oop pass. Except, in those sports adjusting your stride to do those things is necessary. In baseball, to the trained eye, a lot of diving in the outfield is unnecessary. If an outfileder isn't fully extended and mostly horizontal, the ball can usually be caught on the run. But that won't get you on SportsCenter.

I posted this in the game thread, but I know him. Great kid and great athlete.

Was the RB for Rockwall HS on Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s team. Tore his ACL in the 3rd round of the playoffs and missed his senior year of baseball.
