If he was going to get the yips, better to work through them now than in Omaha.

I am very concerned moving forward with Newman. I am not sure it's as simple as "getting the kinks out". He's been doing that all year , inexplicateiy walking and then hitting batters. If I am CPM this keep me up at night worried about a regional or super coming down to bottom of 9th up by one does he go with Newman ? Honestly at this point I almost trust Hess more.

Not going to make a big knee jerk reaction, but to me right now, when you put in Hess I would keep him in until he gets in trouble. I know he is a freshman and you have less to go on for trust, but that is what I would do. He has been looking very good.

Hopefully Paul learns a lesson here. Leave Hess in. Let him go as long as he can.

i don't think he had the yips, i think he didn't have his curve ball. he just couldn't locate it.

but, he hung and CPM hung and he got them out with fast balls.

that was a GUTSY performance by Newman. he battled his arse off and pulled it out.

I'm with you. Newman is our closer, we all know it. That was his inning to win or lose. I expect CPM will do the same thing next time we are in that situation...my question was why bush instead of hess, but it all worked out

Thing is first batter Hess pitched hit a HR - Deichman saved it An knocked it back over fence for a double. Paul Maneri took him out put in Bush and that didn't work so he went with Newman and our defense basically saved the game. But Newman didn't have it tonite at all. I was at game we were all standing the whole bottom of 9th. DEFENSE SAVED THE GAME......Geaux Tigers on to Omaha

That hit to RF was off of Bush.

Newman had 3 shaky closes lately.. He seems to still have that back issue.. If he has any more shaky closes in regional.. Hess should take over the closing role

I would have left hess in till he had the sniff of trouble. I see hess as a true closer with his power.

The bright side was that the game ending made the loss much harder on Van Horn and the piglets. Couldn't happen to a more deserving group.
