I wish I would have known the objective to this article was going to be to felash Miles before I started reading it.

Who is Chris Warner? Nevermind. "*Chris Warner is a writer and still an avowed Les Miles fan." I guess his threads get stickied because they are very long, and are slanted towards making Les Miles look lots better as a coach than he really is.
He just called a ton of LSU fans fools...That's a pretty stupid thing to do.
I didn't read all that mindless drivel. Did he praise Les Miles aka "blithering idiot" on his clock management too?

Great writer providing a balanced look at LSU football. Most of the people bashing Warner and the article need to reread " How It All Got Started" as you are just proving the point he's making.
Great leaders know to surround themselves with great people. Les Miles's biggest problem is being loyal to a fault with his assistants and players.
I've never been a player or coach but I am amused by those experts on this board claiming to be experienced coaches that haven't played a meaningful snap since they were second team on a mediocre HS team. In my experience working with coaches, the ones that have been even moderately successful as players would hold loyalty as a necessary element and also not be prone to the foul-mouthed outbursts common of so many Tiger football " experts."
Keep up the great work, Warner. A little sanity and educated inquiry is always a important in discussing something that evokes such emotional responses from any fan.

Unlike for other rantards, Chicken actually pays him to post here
.
So you may have to take up the issues of long reads, stickies , mindless drivel with Chicken himself.

In last weeks post Warner blasted LSU fans for booing, but the reasons for the boos played out right in front of everyone's eyes during that Tenn game. Inconsistent offense and poor gameplanning cost us that game and then, through fortune, LSU got another chance and won it. I don't hear anyone saying, "Well now we can plainly see why LSU fans were worried...why they booed a team that was winning, but using the same formula that brought about 4 losses last season. Maybe the people who have been watching LSU consistently actually know something."
I don't really expect anyone to say that, obviously. That would be too objective.

So if loyalty is soooooo important like you say, then how come nick saban can get away with firing assistants every year?
And LE pwned most of you in this thread. Almost every person I know that still support miles don't know shite about football. And its not that hard to know football. It's not god damn rocket science. Every coach I know, hs and college, went into coaching because they were not smart enough to go into other fields. Football is not hard and it is pretty shitty that I can read the defense from the stands better then most of our qbs and wrs can when they come to the line.
And those trying to bring up the presaban days, gtfo with that shite. It is not the same program. The facilities are way way better. And lsu better not go cheap on the hire or you will have a revolt. And those saying there are not any attractive candidates, bs, I could name 15 right now off the too of my head.
On that note those of you who say fire GC and get a great oc, who in the hell do you think is gonna come here? Lm is extremely involved with this offense and over rules many play calls. Do you think that the oc you want is not gonna call GC, jumbo, the gundy and ask them what it was like to work for lm? Ask how much input LM has? We will either have to promote from within or give a lower level oc a chance.
Listen I am normally pretty level headed and I know football. The product being put on the field right now is just not that great despite the team oozing talent at most positions. If you can't see that then you don't know football or are a complete homer. Bottomline is les has made a lot of mistakes many of which LE went over in this thread and has set this team up to fail in the future with his handling of the qbs recruiting. Look I'm not a negatiger and I enjoy that we are 5-0 but I can see we have major problems as can most people.

If never ceases to amaze me the # of "fans" bashing Miles. Having survived the "Arnsparger - Hallman" decade, you'd be amazed at the # of people who would be thrilled to be 5-0 with at HC carrying a 79% winning average over 6yrs. Excellent article by the way.

Les is this generations Dale Brown, except Dale never did win it all.
Dale had great players but could never coach them trough the tough games.

QUIT BRINGING UP THE GOD DAMN PRE-SABAN ERA, THIS IS NOT THE SAME LSU, FACILITY OR REPUTATION WISE, AND WILL NOT PUT UP WITH LOSING.
people that have the attitude, let's keep miles we might not be able to do better, have a loser attitude. It's not always about the record, its about the process. Eventually the record catches up to the process. And right now THE PROCESS IS FLAWED, BEDTIME.

look at the top CFB programs who fired a successful head coach:
Miami
won NC under Larry Coker in 2001 season
fired Coker in 2006 and hired Shannon
still haven't won a conference title since 2003
Nebraska
made it to NC game under Frank Solich in 2001
fired Solich in 2003 and hired Callahan then Pelini
still haven't won a conference title since 2001
Notre Dame
i think this is pretty self-explanatory
to sum up my point: be careful what you wish for
way to nitpick.....what about Bama and Florida, 2 teams LSU is very similar to with similar recruiting bases, how did firing 8 and 9 win coaches work out for them?

Les Miles is an offensive coordinator firing away from being one of the nation’s best coaches.
I disagree. The mark of a truly good head coach are his performances in crunch time game situations. LSU fans have seen enough of CLM to know he himself is not nearly as cognizant during the games as he should be. (Not knowing how many TO's the other team has, He didnt even know what the penalty was against UT. Coaches Like Sean Payton (12 man in the huddle) and dare I say $abun are aware of not only their team but the others as well.
quote:
Firing Miles would devastate the LSU Football program. Think Curley Hallman times ten. It would get really bad, as LSU would not be able to replace his recruiting acumen and win totals in the short, foreseeable future.
And this is why you think it would be bad to fire CLM? I ve got news for you. You let MIles continue to make LSU a laughing stock and it will affect his recruiting. It already has started just judging by this weekend comments from 4* WR Jarvis Landry, and he is a in state guy.
If LSU hires "A big name" and not some unknown to take over, with the talent already on the team LSU would not have more that one down year. Wait for that Talent to be gone from LSU and yes LSU may be down for several/many years.
I see no reason to put off the inevitable, and I have seen enough.
Thing that are declining tend to continue the downward trend.
Things that are on the incline also generally continue in the upward direction.
BTW. who hired the CO DC's. WHO hired and then wont fire Crouton? CLM

Miles is loyal TO A FAULT. Saban had more of a business mentality: "Nothing personal, just business." This was clear from his treatment of players being quoted saying that he didn't give praise to players for doing what they were supposed to do.
I'm not saying either is better or worse, but it's important to know what type of leader is at the helm. Either way, the best leader can recognize their own faults and do their best to counteract them.
I agree with you that this is not rocket science and football is not that hard. Being an effective manager of people (players, colleagues, etc) is something that VERY FEW people receive training for.
IMO, those that are upset have every right to ask Les Miles to take a closer, more honest look at his ability to manage his people. If he has to micro-manage the OC, then he's not done a great job. Would you put someone you don't trust in charge of something VERY important? Of course not. But it seems that Les has.
If the grownups (coaches) are not getting along well, you better believe the children (players) are in a world of confusion.

Thank You!!! I'm glad someone else beat me to it.
Look guys, Les Miles has done a few good things: recruited well, backed into a title game and won it in his home state, and brought in/retained some talented people around him: Chavis, Wilson and Moffitt.
But DAMN he's made some really bonehead decisions also:
Watch the post-interception replay where he calls a timeout, watch the 07 game vs Auburn where if the ball is tipped or possibly even falls incomplete we lose, watch the replay at Ole Miss where Vern and Gary are screaming about "why is your kicker not on the field", watch the debacle that occurred this past Saturday afternoon, and then top it off with the post-game presser...
Then go back an look at some of the decisions he made: Co-defensive coordinators, letting RP get away with counterfeit money, casino trouble, et al. I could go on forever...
Sorry for the rambling, but that's what happens in my head when I see people take up for Miles or say it's all Crowton's fault, or "we'd love to be 5-0 during Hallman's era".
It's not the same; this is post-Saban LSU and we deserve MUCH better than this!
