Like I said, if I was donating money to build this thing I would not want my name on it.

he is donating it from a business aspect, not personal. if he did not want his name on it that would make absolutely no sense to pay for it

Mike the Tiger's habitat was funded by private donations and what a fine looking place it is too. The "buy a brick" donation is not original but esthetically does not diminsh the overall effect. I think Mr. Lane could (and should) have been more discreet with this Plaza but I think the idea of pumping LSU's success is terrific. Just a shame that every time you go to a game you will have to explain to a unknowledgeable visitor that no, Gerry Lane did not pitch a no hitter at Rosenblatt, average .450 over a four year college career or hold the LSU record for home-runs!

This is what we should be concentrating on, not who's name is on the thing.

To another poster's point about Eric Lane and Tulane. I don't think the Lanes consider themselves a "Tulane" family, or any kind of college family. They do all love baseball though. Who gives a shite where they came from, as long as they dump money into LSU.

They are an LSU Shreveport family. Eric's son Tyler is catching there.

Would anyone have a problem with the "Boudreaux's Butt-Paste Plaza of Champions at Tiger Stadium"?

What name does he play under? I don't see him on the roster.

The major issue we will never know is, was their a negotiation about the size, font, location of the family name in the graphics. Did LSU try and minimize the donors name and said donor "balked" and played "hardball". If LSU didn't do this shame on them. The name clearly takes away from the aesthetics of the monument.

You are correct, I was mistaken.

I'm pretty sure Mr. Gerry claims him.

his son may have played baseball at Tulane but he was and has always been a diehard LSU fan. The only reason he played for Tulane is because Tulane offered a scholarship. LSU at that time was told to go see him play at an American Legion game in Natchez, Ms. and absolutely no one at LSU showed up after being informed of his outstanding play. I dont care how big a fan of LSU I am, if I have a full paid scholarship to a Division I school or told to walk on at another school, or basically they snub me, I take the scholarship. I know , I grew up with Mr. Gerry's son and stood in his wedding. He always and continues to love LSU and Mr. Gerry is a very huge supporter of LSU athletics and best of friends with Skip Bertman, so does not donate money just because he lives in Baton Rouge.

Thank you. I have not known the Lane family as closely as you have but have had the privilege of knowing them well enough to be on first name bases and through the years have talked LSU sports with both Gerry and Eric. I know how they feel about LSU baseball (and football for that matter).

Next time you talk to them, tell them I will never step foot on their lot as long as their sucky-arse commercials continue to run on TV/radio. Thanks in advance.
