You have to stop before Lafayette and get off at the cankton/Scott exit and hit dons meat market for crackins and boudin for snacks on the road trip. Its on the right side of the interstate if you are headed to baton rouge

If you're going to be stopping anywhere between Houston and Lafayette, it should be at Best Stop for boudin and cracklins.

Edit: This guy above me.

Do I need a toll tag to do that, or can I pay cash?

I assume you're flying into Bush Intl. The section of the beltway you would be taken is toll tag only. Most rental car companies in Houston should have a toll tag or have an arrangement that allows their fleet to use the toll roads.

Can somebody post what exit you take 'to go through town' and avoid the cluster in Beaumont, and then get back on I-10. I've heard there's a way but I don't know the exact route.

Get off I-10 and take TX-73 E just before Winnie. You will go through Port Arthur and it turns into TX-87. You will come back to I-10 in Orange, TX. Just Google map it. This route saves an hour easily if Beaumont is fricked up.

If you take that TX-73 route, watch your speed about 6 miles east of Winnie. I was working at a site nearby and watched some old boy (trooper) stop darn near every car he passed. He gave me the stink-eye but I had already slowed way down to find the site.

I'll hopefully be leaving Houston around the same time. I hope I get to BR before 8:30.

Oh and hope you thoroughly enjoy your time down here. Quite some determination to fly in from England

ETA: Damn, I used hope in 3 straight sentences, my vocab sucks

IT will take you at least 4.5 hours once you leave the airport. You will not need a reservation at TJ ribs by the time you get there. Just walk in.

Try pushing your reservation back and if you make it, cool; if you don't, no big deal go to the Chimes. They don't close until 2:00 a.m. It's my favorite place to go when I visit BR. I'm sure it's been suggested by someone else.

I've booked at table at TJ ribs for 8:30pm on Friday night
You probably didn't have to do this, either. By that time, TJ will be on the tail end of the game weekend Friday night dinner rush.

I agree hit up Best stop for Boudin and the Chimes after, screw TJ's.

Be sure and post back after,I'd love to hear about your experience here.

Just curious, what is your connection to LSU or how did you become a fan.

I always love to hear those stories.
