He's an interesting consideration. I think Bugg could be a serviceable closer. But I'm not convinced our bullpen is ready for him to vacate that spot. But now I'm wondering if we can't use him on Sunday if he's not needed Fri/Sat?

He probably would if I continued to contribute $1,500/year towards his "volunteer" salary....

Broussard definitely seems to have closer locked in now. I like Bugg's potential. Big frame and gets lots of K's. I wouldn't mind seeing him or Cartwright start a midweek for a few innings to see how it goes.

I hope he get's two or three innings today, he may get us the win today if needed.

It really is amazing how many opportunities McCune has had without doing much to warrant it beyond his freshman year.

I suspect McCune's mid-week relief performance Wednesday night versus S Alabama prompted PM to give him a chance today.

Bugg needs to stick in his 8th inning set up role, it is a bigger role than most people think. putting a 0 on the board in the 8th wins many games and will win many games for us.

outside of McCune's one bad inning @ Vandy he has been good.

That day was just awful at vandy and no one should be looked down upon after that.

Yeah that's a good role for now but I'm just thinking way down the line. Having a lockdown ace and an up and coming strong 2nd starter with two very solid bullpen guys can win us many series. We just need that one guy that can last more than a few innings on Sunday now. And I agree with what a few others have said, I just don't see how McCune could finally turn it around after all the chances he's had.

And does Person's Friday performance get him a start next week? Does Scivicque throwing out 3 of 6 runners get him behind the plate 85% of the time? Fraley's .500 average get him starts?

That's my point. McCune gets all these chances as soon as he shows he might be ready for it. And more often than not, we've been disappointed.

True. He's given up 4 earned runs this season and they all came in that one inning at Vandy. Wednesday night he faced 3 batters and struck out all 3 on 19 pitches.

Bouman should be back by then.

One bad appearance by him this season...at Vandy.

I haven't been able to catch much on Bouman this year on his stuff. What does he bring to the table?

before SEC play Bouman was pitching great, but then he had a crappy outing vs Vandy couldn't strike guys out threw like 40 pitches in one inning, than he hurt him self tripping on a ball in practice.

You're ignoring my point.

Still ignoring.

Do I want McCune to do well today or do I think he could? Yes. But I don't have much faith in him based on who he's succeeded against and who he struggled against and his past 2 years. He also didn't impress me when I saw him in the fall. PM said he would start him as closer, but that went away immediately. Where is that doubt now?
