We have better players than Stanford does, no doubt about that. And comparing coaches by their resume is pointless, considering the levels of talent at each school. I mean do you remember what Nick Sabans record was before he came to LSU? He was 34-24 at Michigan State.... not exactly setting the world on fire there. But he still was a great coach.

quote:

I'm not saying les is better

You just said that... so why cant I have Shaw ahead of Miles then? Like someone said, its all subjective. Besides Saban, you can rank the top college coaches in any order and are interchangeable. Its all personal preference. Les Miles is a damn good coach, def a top 10 coach in the country. So is Shaw. You literally said Miles isnt better than him. Its all personal preference.

Watch Stanford play. They are 1 of the most fundamental and technical sound football team in the country. Oregon, USC, and UCLA are more talented than Stanford. Yet Stanford is the team that typically wins that conference. And its because they are extremely well coached, arguably the best coached team in the country. They do not make nearly the same amount of mistakes as other teams in the country do.

Using what Harbaugh left him? thats funny. Shaw has been the coach for these last 3 seasons, going on his 4th season. Everyone has been expecting Stanford to drop off after losing Harbaugh and then Luck. But they havent. If you can say Shaw is winning with what Harbaugh left him / his players then someone could say Les Miles won a title with Sabans players. Its the same thing. I dont believe that at all, but the concept is the game.

I dont think Patterson should be on that list. Nor should Sumlin. Hes a good coach but I want to see what he and TAMU do without Manziel.

I'd put him at #4 in all of college. Behind Saban, Spurrier (because he has raised two programs to top level in UF and USCe), Meyer (what he has done at Utah, UF, and OSU), Snyder (this guy does more with less than anybody), and tied with Dantonio. Stoops for what he has done at Oklahoma is great no matter how you spin it.

Briles did elevate Baylor and TCU has been great with Patterson. Peterson does get merit for dominating opponents with similar talent. It would be between Shaw, Kelly, and Fisher to round out my top 10.

They did have a point though top coaches dont let their teams play to the levels of the competiton. That is defintely an issue with Les at times

All coaches do this. Have you seen some of the wins and losses Saban has had at Bama even though he dominates the competition in recruiting? Snyder lost against the best FCS team In CFB, but still an FCS team. Meyer has done the same, so has Jimbo (before this year, FSU fans were split and more to the side of hating his play calling). I've seen it several times from all these coaches. That's a lame arse excuse that holds no real water.

Sumlin makes absolutely no sense. Dude hasn't won shite, a cotton bowl and a chicken bowl isn't even a shite stain on Les Miles draws

The relevance of this top 10 ended when Sumlins name was put up over Les.

I can understand what you are saying, but this shite was just on NFL.com. They are doing their 14 best list and Miles isn't even on there. They have the guy from Duke and Oregon State ahead of him. They even have Spurrier at 11

ETA:
Well, it is just a list by a single person instead of a poll so whatever. I got worked up over nonsense.

Can we just stop giving a shite about these stupid top 10 coaches lists? WE know LSU is fine with Les at the helm. That should be enough.

It really is nuts. No one has put more guys in the NFL in the last few years than Les. I don't get it. I guess 10 wins in the SEC just ain't what it used to be.

Yeah, sorry, wasn't really directed at you.

It's just a terrible list. Therefore, no reason for the masses to get upset. But they will.

There arent 10 guys who can CEO a major SEC program better than Miles. There arent many who can last 10 years period in the SEC.
Him not being included in this list has to be an x's and o's thing. It's certainly not based on the job requirements of the HC.
1. Win
2. Graduate
3. Nfl Pipeline
4 No sanctions
etc.
Add in the longevity and the peace of mind he's not leaving to the NFL and I could care less about any list or nat'l perception. When its all said and done, Miles will be considered one of the greatest COLLEGE coaches of all time.

I do support Cutcliffe on this list. I know the ACC doesn't compare to the SEC overall, but Duke football was the worst of the worst before he got there: No bowls since 1994, lucky to get a single ACC win. Now they're division champions in just 6 years, which was unthinkable before. Cutcliffe can flat-out coach.

All that NFL talent without the NC's to show for it probably enters into their thought process don't you think?
