I will just post some notes if I see anything interesting.

Batting practice with position players and runners on base. This is a change from last year I believe. Working on double plays etc. Fast pace.

Morgan and Crews both hitting.

Cooper starting again

Gervase said he was 6'10".

Met scuba. Very nice guy.

Johnson waved to us hello. Also a nice guy.

McManus caught Doughty stealing. Good arm, now he needs to get that bat back.

Struck out the side, all on high fastballs. Looked really strong. I think the question here is what it looks like in the 6th. Arm is live.

On Moscona earlier, Theriot was pretty fired up about the offense. Said it very well could be the best in the country. Also said Pearson is the real deal and is gonna be hard to keep out of the lineup. Gonna be interesting to see who leaves before spring. I’d have to think Gio and Beloso are 2 of the more likely ones. Regardless, there are gonna be some studs on the bench, and Johnson may have to sacrifice some defense to get some of those bats in the lineup. Maybe Berry at 2nd and somebody besides Thompson at short? I’m not down on him like some and think he’s gonna be really good, but does he save as many runs at short than an older, better bat can score? Good problem to have, but JJ’s gonna have some tough decisions to make. I’d imagine we see a bunch of different combos before SEC play.

Thompson is a stud and gonna do nothing but get better with Johnson here. Johnson is on video telling a kid to get Thompson’s autograph bc “he is gonna be a major leaguer someday”, he isn’t going anywhere unless he really struggles.

Some guys might choose to leave on their own. They are also looking at implementing some new redshirt rules which could free up some roster spots. We shall see.

Thompson hit like .260-.270 last year I want to say which is not bad at all for a freshman in the SEC. Thompson has shortstop on lock unless he really has a downturn in play this year

Doughty with unassisted double play.

Coleman struggled some, loaded bases in third but does have 6K's in 3 innings.

Gio with a nice double.

Gause replacing Cooper. Cooper only had one K but was efficient and looks like someone that could pitch a lot of innings.

They shifted the defense on Beloso and he barely missed one down the third base line. I have been waiting to see that from him. That said, it was a foul and then he struck out.

Not saying that JJ is like Paul, but we should know from history that the opening day lineup is not the lineup that opens the SEC. People get hurt, go into slumps, etc.
We are going to need Gio, etc., before this is over.

Berry had a fielding error but it was a tough play.

McManus with another good hit.
