I started this thread precisely because I kept reading a bunch of posts diminishing what Freeman and Notre Dame accomplished this year. Sounds like a bunch of jealousy to me

LSU's coach is getting bashed in the national media because Notre Dame is supposedly "better" now even though they've achieved the same thing that they did under BK.

And you're on an LSU board shocked that people are agitated about the gaslighting?

quote:

A lot of the ND hatred towards Kelly started when Declan Sullivan was killed videoing practice.

Well, that's dumb.

quote:

But when we see our team non-competitive against elite competition far worse than the talent disparity on the field (ND had plenty of 4-stars like they do now) and struggle numerous times against completely inferior teams (and losing quite a few), what the hell are we
supposed to think? And now that Freeman did what Kelly was unable to do - win big games in the postseason and at least get ND looking like it belongs in other games, some of y'all here want to caveat the success of the team with ridiculous rationalizations. It looks like more than a few of you are the ones actually obsessed with Notre Dame and Marcus Freeman.

What games are you referring to, specifically?

2012 Bama, 2018 Clemson, and 2020 Bama were all quite a bit better than the teams Freeman has beat in the postseason.

Herein lies the gaslighting.

Well, I'm looking at 2012 Alabama football. They beat Notre Dame that year about as bad as anyone, including Western Kentucky and Florida Atlantic.. Notre Dame managed a whopping 3 points against Clemson 2018, the lowest point total against Clemson all year.

Again, Notre Dame 2024-25 is not playing against those teams...this line of reasoning is just poor...again, like discrediting Bryson DeChambeau's US Open victory because Tiger in his prime would have dominated. Makes zero sense. Texas 1969 couldn't beat any top 50 team this year...does that make their national championship crap? Because that's your line of "reasoning." You can only play who you got that year, period. But as long as you want to play that silly game, I think ND 2024 would most certainly beat 2012 and 2018 Notre Dame.

No doubt, but if you're going to continue to say that Freeman wins "big games" and that BK didn't, you can't whine and complain when people actually compare the opponents they faced.

You also keep talking about BK losing to lesser teams while glossing over the fact that Freeman has losses to:

9-4 Marshall (Sun Belt)
3-9 Stanford
8-4 NIU (MAC)

I'm sure LSU are biased in their arguments here, but let's not pretend Notre Dame fans aren't as well.

You know you are correct. Kelly has LSU in the championship game. I stand corrected.

Really? At least they looked like they belonged on the field at the end, unlike BK's ND teams.

That’s the difference between playing a big game against Ryan Day instead of Nick Saban. Be glad you were fortunate to get the weak side of the bracket to make you feel like you were better than you were. And come back and see us when BK becomes the 4th straight LSU coach to win a natty here.

No they didn’t. Ohio State went up 28, and coasted the rest of the way. Notre Dame is still Notre Dame. They play a weak schedule, then get exposed when they play a good team. Georgia minus their qb doesn’t count. You can go back to your own board now, Freeman isn’t better than Kelly. The difference is, he didn’t have a complete rebuild when he took over, unlike Kelly.

Bogus takes like this are why I stick around. OSU was not on "cruise control." Diminishing top 10 wins and 3 straight playoff wins is poor. I would never do that if LSU does that next year. And if you can point to me BK's three postseason wins against top 10 teams then I'll agree with you Freeman hasn't done any better.

Hey let’s measure what MK does next year! Not going to be good ! You better get some players in there to get you over the “hump” your undersized Defensive line costed you!! It damn near coated you again psu ! Your qb that can’t throw the ball worth a shot costed you! Your damn coach that decided to go cover 0 costed you and a cover zero where the guy doesn’t even put his hands on him because he’s 5 yards off him ! GTFOH!

I guess I don't write clearly enough. I think Freeman has already done a better job at ND than Kelly has. Anyone who doesn't wear LSU gear knows that. But I always said Kelly is a good coach with many strengths. And hopefully for you he will elevate his game preparation and coaching. He's a very smart man so I wouldn't bet against it.
