He was making plays at or behind the line of scrimmage early and midway through the season last year and our D was dominant. (excepting Bama)
That seemed to stop late in the year and has continued to this year.
I don't pretend to know the why's but I do know he hasn't seemed like the same player.

A lot of missed tackles lately and safety depth is really questionable right now. Also I’ve seen him behind the line a good bit...

Well if he would wrap up and tackle he would seem like the same player.

Think they will go a lot more Man coverage and free up Delpit to do what we want to see him do! Wreak Havic on QB's

Possibly has some kind of nagging injury. The guy is a stone-cold-baller.

He’s missed 2 big tackles but they moved him out of that river strong safety position to free safety so he’s a center fielder now.
I wish they would put him back close to the line and let him make plays

They are playing him at free safety because he is the only one they have to play that position.
That’s like using a Ferrari to get from Port Allen to Prarieville on the Friday afternoon before Memorial Day. It’ll do the job, but you’re going to stay in second gear the whole way.
When you have to get there, and all of your other vehicles are F250s or other Ferraris that don’t run quite as well, you use what you have.
I’m hoping Aranda finds a genius way to move him up. I don’t see how.

This is instinct, not knowledge. I haven’t studied the film. But . . .
Sometimes a “missed” tackle is deceptive. If a guy pursues a play from the other side of the field, running twenty or thirty yards to reach the runner, then shoestrings him, we say he missed a tackle. It was a feat of athleticism that he even got that close.
He’s playing fifteen yards back. If he gets to a running play, that’s something.

I hope they try Vincent at the FS position.

He even was ran over in that Texas game

it's because last year when battle went down he moved to a true safety position out of necessity and that's where he's been mostly this season. He can't stay as close to the line when he's responsible to play center field. Also, you'll recall that jacoby got into his old role last year and was flashing all over the place. the role is there, but Delpit is not in it anymore.

Yeah by a 220 lbs freak. You try and make that tackle

It's because Battle was injured early against Bama and missed the remainder of the season except for the bowl game. He caught a ton of flack on this forum but his impact on the back end of the defense getting everyone in place and providing a safety valve so that the other safety (Delpit and Adams before him) could just fly around and make plays has been severely underestimated by this board.
