He’s the only La high school football coach to take three schools to the title game.

Byrd (1956)
Woodlawn (1965)
Captain Shreve (1973)

Well I’m glad he did better than I thought. Curious also why he left that soon

Shreve’s stadium is named after him. Great guy.

Edited it for you. The former Caddo Parish was renamed after Coach Hedges. The stadium is the home stadium in football for Byrd and Shreve.

Before that it was called Captain Shreve Stadium. Other schools stated bitching so they named it Caddo Parish Stadium and the renamed it after Coach Hedges. We actually played some home games a Fairground Field. When we played home games "at home" we were always on the visitor side opposite the Press Box.

Speaking of, I was at Tech when Woodlawn played Ruston at Ruston in I believe 1968. Both were N La powers at the time. QB’s were Joe Ferguson and Bert Jones. Final score was a surprising 14-7 Woodlawn in a defensive battle with two future NFL QB’s on the field.

He was fantastic! He coach my neighbor and QB classmate at Woodlawn High School in Shreveport, who later became a pro football Hall of Fame quarterback and four-time Super Bowl Champion, Terry Bradshaw.

Woodlawn beat Ruston 34-7 in 1968. Joe Ferguson fired three TD passes that game; two to Jim Hodge for 37 and 11 yards, and one to flanker Gary Green from 2 yards out.

I remember that game well, as I came down with the Hong Kong flu that night, had a 103° fever, and was barely conscious on the ride back home to Shreveport. About the only thing I remember on that ride from Ruston to Shreveport was hearing the song "White Room" by Cream on the radio

Funny, I thought he was an old man when I played for him. But he was like 50.

My brother was a young looking 48 when he asked his 8th grade student how old the kid thought he was. Answer: 70

Yeah, maybe it was an earlier year. Possibly 1966 or 1967
