I played against Mark Bass in HS. (He was a couple years older than me.) Man amongst boys. Maybe the best Bossier Bearkat ever outside of Tony Moss. Sorry to hear.

My condolences.

Can you give some background about him because his name doesn't ring a bell immediately.

Signed with tigers in 1980 , played in high school all star game . Was a fullback at lsu. Lettered a couple of times , mostly on special teams . Was a great guy to drink a beer with and always had your back . He will be missed by many . I've been told he was very good at Bossier high school .

I watched them both play in High school and played against Tony Moss in basketball. Tony was in another galaxy in both sports. Bass was good.

I’ve met him a few times, he was hilarious and seemed like a fantastic guy.

Bass and Martin Lopez were buddies of mine. Both deceased now. Martin played at ULM and died in a car wreck.

Bass was the strongest human I have ever met.

He was. Great guy to hang out with.

In fact he is the person who put me on to my first wife. She was following me around the ballpark and he's the guy who let me know.

You may have also played vs my younger brother, he played on that Airline team that went 30-1. Larry Robson, John Russell and Byron young were on that team.

Robson went on the the NBA after Centenary, Russell to UNO and Young to Houston.

He was class of 80 or 81. Played fullback so didn't get a lot of notoriety on the field. He was a legend off the field.

I absolutely DID play against the Airline team that went 30-0 before losing to Lafayette in the first round. There was a really good sophomore who I was guarding. He slapped my hand as I was checking him and he sprained the crap out of my thumb preventing me from being a factor at all the rest of the game. I'll never forget that. That was the 85-86 season.

My brother was the center. He had a baseball offer to NSU, but went to a NAIA school where he could play both sports.

He matched up with David Benoit vs Lafayette who went on to play for the Utah Jazz.

We were messing around with this steel rod, about 2" in diameter trying to hit a baseball with it. He knocked it out of the park with one arm.

I remember him. That was a good team. Unfortunately, we lost 4 starters from the previous season so we struggled that year. We lost Randy White who played for Tech and the Mavs, Kenny Davidson, who played football for LSU and the Steelers, and 2 lightning quick guards. I also played against Roman Banks from Shreve. Lots of talent in SP/BC in the 80s.

Yep, there absolutely was. Todd Walker came on later in the decade.

I haven't heard this. I played with Mark Bass at BHS. He was the nicest guy ever. The Dude would be brought in at QB to throw hail Mary's all through the game. He had a cannon for an arm but he was a man among boys on the D-line. Mark should be 58. Very proud that I knew this good man.

RIP my old friend.
