RIP my man ......
Former LSU quarterback Felix Holmes "Buddy" Lee, 67, died last Friday in Florida after a long illness.

Lee grew up in Baton Rouge and was All-District in football and basketball at Zachary High School.
Lee was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1971 and later traded to the Los Angeles Rams.
Lee is survived by his wife, Coleen; sisters, Amelia Lee and Annie Laurie Rodosta; nephew, Joseph Rodosta and his wife, Kathy; long-time friend, Joe Carter; sisters-in-law, Kate Connelly (and Family) and Maureen Kelly; brothers in law, Robert Kelly, T.J. Kelly (and family) and Sean Kelley; and many other loving family members.

Just as a side note, Buddy took over at QB after starter Butch Duhe suddenly died.
He was good and I remember his play in the Orange Bowl. If he had not gotten injured in the 2nd half we would have probably won. Instead, an inexperienced Bert Jones replaced him, and didn't do bad, but losing Lee affected the team's momentum.

I remember him--a steady, if unspectacular, stay-in-the-pocket QB.
It is tough to see a Tiger go, especially someone from my generation. Rest in peace, Buddy.

LSU was 9-1 in 1969 and 9-2 in 1970. The 1969 Tigers had one of the best Defenses in LSU History. Going 18-3 over two years is not too bad!! Buddy Lee is one year younger than I am so I remember the era really well!

Ollsufan, are you sure Buddy Lee was a southpaw? I am pretty sure Jimmy Gilbert was but thought Lee was right handed. Maybe my old mind is failing.

Everyone wants to be like Buddy Lee.

I was thinking he was right handed, but that's 45 years ago and my memory is not what it once was. I am going to probably do a bit of reading on him this weekend myself to refresh my memory.

I was almost 6 when my Dad took me to my first Tiger game on Oct 25, 1969. LSU 21 Auburn 20.
First play of the game - Buddy Lee pitched to Jimmy Gilbert who threw a halfback pass to Andy Hamilton for a TD.
Still have the program from that game. Buddy's picture is in it.
RIP Tiger....

Buddy and Jimmy were both right handers. Mike Hillman was the southpaw from that era.
