That's the purpose of dozens of pollsters.
It compares favorably to the composite, which has LSU at 11. The composite uses dozens of sources with a very large number of pollsters. They aren't far off

You did not like the AP Preseason Ranking last year and LSU exceeded expectations....Alleva said so.
Now you like the AP Preseason Ranking ....is LSU going to exceed expectations and make it to the CFP? It has to meet the "exceeded expectations" Alleva gold standard.

No there’s no effort to balance anything it’s just media representation with individual votes biases and motivations tallied up to make a poll. There’s no coordination or attempt to get everyone on the same page or criteria for balance.
