They say the same thing about USC every year, and every year USC loses. But no one doubts Pete Carrol's coaching. LSU has great talent, but it is not worlds above TN, AU, Bama, UF, or UGA.

Didn't Saban even say that Miles won more games than Saban probably would have???

The general consensus of the people I'm still in contact with from my LSU days and their contacts/friends (Mostly LSU grads too that love the Tigers, but are "Objective Realists") is that we are starting to see the very begginnings of a program decline. Started with Miles making a DiNardo like mistake with the Mallveto Co-DC thing. And, we're seeing the apparent unfolding of an unbalanced recruiting philosophy that has left the defense in a confused shambles. We no longer have a good mix of fast athletes and smart football players that make plays and provide leadership. All of those types were Sabans guys and have since departed and were not replaced. WE think the whole thing will just get worse over time if LM doesn't address these two issues. I know that all the powers that be, movers and shakers and alumni AREN'T going to have any patience if this NO DEFENSE thing continues next year if he doesn't make any moves or staff changes after this season.

BTW, we all laugh at and don't take seriously all the arse kisser-brownnoser-cheerleader types that I'm constantly taking shots at.

Individuals that accept rank mediocrity and try to cover up and sugar coat problems in any aspect of LSU football serve no useful purpose are easily dismissed......

Quite possibly the most cogent statement I've ever read on here.

FWIW
I'm still close with about a dozen ex-players from the mid/late 90s (some scrubs, some starters & all-SEC players & 2 current NFLers). I was at a dinner Sat nite with 2 ex-LSU greats who are both in the La & LSU HOFs and were both allPro NFLers. A close business associate is also a former starter from the early 80s. Obviously, they don't all agree totally. However, the general opinion is that Miles has been quite lucky. Every sport & every Champ team has a certain degree of luck (just to get into the big game, even). A few said that after the Tenn game when Miles was basically tackled trying to call a TO, they started to wonder.

They do all tend to agree that people are too hard on Lee (just a RS Frosh) & he can end up being very good. But Miles & his have hugely underachieved this year (regardless of the record). They point out things in lack of preparation and game coaching and lack of organization and lack of fundamentals that I don't always notice.

Anyway, just the opinions of some people that most of you idolized or still idolize.

LSU took a big step back in losing Pellini. I hope Miles will look at a possible DC hire as a chance to improve. At least make a decision on one of the guys.

Miles is capable of being great. He has given the LSU fanbase every reason to trust him. I truly believe LSU will be back in Atlanta at least 2 of the next 4 years. If rebuilding means losing 3, I am just fine with that. If it means losing 5, not so much. There is still a lot to play for and a lot of reasons to be very optimistic about our future.

Depends really if you're an optimist or pessimist. I fall into the former catagory. There's so much evidence that points to optimism.

You Queens wanted Pelini fired after Az State and Tenn games in '05 and then last yr because his mind was on Nebraska job.

Me either.

Someone once defined an optimist as "A person who jumps off a 50-floor building and gets to the 49th floor and says, 'So far, so good.'" Sometimes Coach Miles seems a little too optimistic to me.

Regarding Coach Miles; calling a coach who is 41-9 with a National Championship, an SEC Championship, two SEC-West Championships, three top-5 finishes in three years and an unbroken streak of top 25 rankings "Lucky" is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. If this is "rank mediocrity" then I gladly accept it and wouldn't want it any other way. Honestly, if you consider yourself a "realist", how can you consider what Miles has done since he's been here "mediocrity"? What more would he have had to do to be considered a good coach in your opinion? Which coaches have had better records in that time or better records in their 1st three seasons anytime in history.

Regarding the Co-DC situation, I feel like there is plenty of room for improvement. However, I also think that these guys have been steadily improving. After the Florida and Georgia games, a lot of people (including myself) complained about the inability of the coaches to make adjustments. After a horrible 1st half against Troy we basically shut them down in the second half meaning adjustments were made and those adjustments were extremely effective. Also, the USCe and Bama games were good defensive efforts IMO. I still am not sold on Co-Coordinators and would like to see a single DC hired or at the very least, one of the current 2 take over next year. But just like our QB, our Co-coordinators are new to this and are still learning. And although its not as fast as I would like, they are steadily improving as they learn there new positions. As much as I'd love to see a top-shelf DC brought in next year, If Miles decides to keep them another year, I don't think it will be nearly as bad as some are predicting.

Yea, I trust their opinions. Mid 90's? That means that they sucked for the most part and had a coach or coaches that sucked too. They wish they could have played for someone like Miles. Oh and BTW this is also FWIW.
I know several players from the late 60s-late 70s and early 80s who think that Miles is a damn good coach and just what the doctor orderes. Several of them are also in the LSU HOF and are ex NFL all pros also.

Well hell, if comments like this from the Band Camp Mafia doesn't scare Miles into submission, nothing will!

Oops, your opinion is showing.

Clearly you are just looking for people to support the position you want to hold. Otherwise, it would make no sense to solicit opinions on an "obvious trend." And since no one has ever called it "tantamount to heresy" to say that the obvious trend of the team is positive, that position that you want to hold is clearly a negative one.

And, for the record, very, VERY few people on this board (or anywhere else) would term negative comments about the performance at LSU of a coach who is 41-9 with a National Championship, an SEC Championship, two SEC-West Championships, three top-5 finishes in three years and an unbroken streak of top 25 rankings "tantamount to heresy"; most of us just consider them laughably ignorant. And even more laughable are the comments from people who insist that -- though such a successful coach and his entire staff of successful, professional college football coaches have not thought of the answer to whatever ails the team -- they, the random message-board poster, have it all figured out.

And, fyi, when you have a negative opinion of someone but don't offer it openly yourself, but solicit others to support it first, that is precisely looking for someone to throw that person "under the bus."

what he said.
