Oklahoma City pitcher Zach Lee said he knows he made the right decision in signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers after being selected in the first round of the 2010 draft.

With the $5.25 million signing bonus, it was a no-brainer. However, Lee said he wonders what it would have been like being a two-sport potential star athlete at LSU.

“I just know it would have been a great experience to play in Death Valley and, of course, The Box,” said Lee, who had signed to play quarterback and pitch for the Tigers. “Part of the appeal for me was they had great programs in baseball and football in the past, and they continue to have great programs.

“They’ve had some guys — Jared Mitchell, Chad Jones — who were able to play both at a high level.”

Lee was a standout football player at McKinney (Texas) High School, and may have been drafted higher if not for wanting to continue to play football. However, the leverage football provided ultimately helped get a signing bonus that was much higher than expected for a player picked 28th overall.

Okay? He made the right decision. He did lose an invaluable experience but I doubt he regrets it.

I'd be content too if I had 5.25 million in the bank, no matter how shitey of a baseball player I was.

Was wondering when the Dodgers would throw in the towel on him? He got 5.25 so he made the right decision if he never throws another MLB pitch.

Did anyone see the other thread yesterday where the guys said, "he gave up millions in football money". The guy truly believed he would go pro without ever seeing him play a college snap. It was funny. Like others have said, lee made the right decision. He can still play college football and be a millionaire doing it.

He doesn't. Agent gets % and taxes pound him for about 40% in Cal. Although, not sure of how the tax rules apply if you live in Texas And sign with an LA team.

So think I g he paid income tax, he put about 3M or less in the bank.

Then comes the living in LA, buying a home there, etc

Great money, but not like having 3 million and living easy in Louisiana.

I don't think he was living in L.A. Where has he been assigned all this time. Then consider when he is playing ball a bunch of minor leaguers rent homes together and split costs. He probably went home in offseason.

Any shot he does pull a Weinke/Weeden? Hell LSU could use a starter in 2018.

Zach Lee would have won four heismans if he stayed.

Plus he gets free healthcare for life now that he's played in the majors. If he gets 43 days on the 25 man he gets a $34,000 pension the rest of his life.
