For the X’s and O’s guys…

Was LSU in the right formations and in position to make plays defensively Saturday? Or was it a full breakdown of coaching and just bad alignment, formation, etc..?

I have not seen the coaches film from the game, but I can tell you right now, there are many times, when LSU is simply outnumbered. Football is a numbers game, many times LSU doesn't have the numbers to one side.

We just don't have the dudes to defend a mobile qb. I remember after 1st half of A&M game everyone was praising Baker...not really his fault he doesn't have the guys to defend running qb's

LSU’s linebackers have no lateral speed
LSU’s safeties are just terrible

This was the first game where the DL just got absolutely blasted as well. Even against A$M it was more assignment mistakes. Against Bama we got beat up front pretty badly and then had assignment mistakes.

I recall seeing 1 Milroe TD where he motions the RB out of the backfield & Penn follows him (they were in Man) gets the ball & runs the other way and it’s a 1on1 with our safety who obviously can’t tackle him.
A little bit of both - wrong defensive call for a running qb & poor play

Basically the same personnel as last season with more experience. Interesting that Matt House got dumped on when he couldn't stop Milroe last year. The other flaw in your logic is that you are saying that most other teams have better personnel than LSU has on defense. Sorry, don't buy that for a millisecond. LSU doesn't have elite defensive talent but here are the Milroe rushing yards. S Fla 12-2 Wisc 14-75 GA 16-117 Vandy 7-10 S Car 18-36 Tenn 14-11 Missouri 11-50 LSU 12-185. If personnel is the issue, then I guess GA stinks also. No, it is coaching and being prepared which Baker did a poor job of. Guess there is a different standard for Blake Baker. Bottom line IMO: Baker is an overrated DC! The only "innovative" defense that Baker tried with his "I stack" of defensive players which A&M blew up in one play and that the analyst at the game ridiculed before the running play even started that got 15 yards.

In my amateur opinion we have to pick our poison still. We stay in cover 1 like 75% of the time due to our inability to play more exotic zones.
I’ve always thought that man puts you in jeopardy with the running QB. But live by the sword I suppose. The real question I have is that without Milroe runs we really held Bama rushing game in check. But when they added the RB as a lead blocker we were gashed.

I am now looking at the all 22 from the game, holy shite, it is bad. LSU had absolutely no clue against the run game. They got formationed to death. I am only in the 2nd quarter and there are multiple times when they are outnumbered by 2 + bodies. Not good.

There is no way our coaching is this bad with the highest paid coordinator in the country.

prior to the last 6 quarters people were asking about him being the HC in waiting. Talking about the great job he has done. How our defense has improved the most etc. This fan base is so wishy washy and emotional. This defense doesn't have the talent to defend good mobile qbs...your opinion is the coaches mine is the players. You act like coaches have a bunch of different ways to defend mobile qb's...it isn't as complicated as you think. You want more speed on the field and dline to not rush to far upfield. What I saw saturday night is an Alabama team that came out with a chip on their shoulder and the healthiest Milroe has been all year and a defense that isn't good at tackling and not very fast. Coaches don't coach speed. Bama bullied us with oline and having an extra blocker when Milroe was running the ball...their rbs didn't hurt us except for catches out of the backfield...once again that is the offense taking advantage of a weakness on our defense. It is easy for fans to blame the coaches...even when they don't know what each players responsibility is on every play

Watch Power Hour with CarterThePower on YouTube. He’s the best and a huge tiger fan from Louisiana.
BK’s worst coached game of his career
We continue to run plays that haven’t worked all year. Joe Sloan has no idea how to adjust and calls the same plays even when they don’t work. For example we continue to run counter even though we get stuffed everytime. Same thing with 4 verts. Same with Mason Taylor running a wheel route from the slot. These 3 plays haven’t worked all year for us but Sloan continues to call them.
DJ Chester is one of the lowest graded players in the entire country on offense and defense. It’s not a youth thing, he’s just bad at center.
Kyren Lacy dropping a td pass killed us.
Sloan designs pass plays where 2 players run routes than end up right next to each other.
Jujuan Johnson dropped a swing pass that could’ve been a big gain. He’s dropped multiple swing passes previously but Sloan keeps calling this play.
Nuss can’t handle pressure and the few times we had someone open he airmailed the pass.
Defensively, for some absurd reason our d line wasn’t playing contain. 2 years in a row we have ends crashing inside instead of playing contain against Milroe.
We had multiple times where 2 defensive players were basically lined up right next to each. As in 2 linebackers or a linebacker and safety standing next to each other like they’re on the offensive line.
We had plays where our def tackles attacked the wrong gap.
We had several plays where the linebackers over pursued and cutbacks were wide open. Bama’s offensive design is to attack this, but it’s like Blake Baker didn’t understand this or doesn’t know how to adjust.
Our safeties are both too slow in the pass game but also have 0 ability to tackle. It’s really bad.
Zy Alexander got burned several times.
Despite 2 years of film showing that Milroe likes to throw to Jam Miller (rb) in the red zone, Baker called plays leaving the middle of the field wide open. They burned us.
Blake Baker is struggling with balancing playing with havoc and playing fundamentally sound. Savion Jones seems to randomly guess if he’s playing contain or crashing the inside.
It’s one of the worst combinations of BK not recruiting well enough and ignoring the transfer portal and also terrible coaching that just seems like they’re picking plays out of a hat.

Baker is in a box , it’s hard to know if this is on him because he’s running Kelly’s defense. He has done a good job mixing it up and blitzing at times but in terms of ability to change personnel and matchup, he just doesn’t have options schematically.

Baker is a victim of some crap too. No punting game to help w field position. No ability to rush the football and shorten games. A QB that’s now a turnover machine.
It’s too much pressure on a barely serviceable defense as it was. Football is complimentary

You didn't hear that from me. And I guess you think the S Carolina game was "in the last 6 quarters". I guess you don't remember Sellars their QB running wild in the 1st half vs LSU before getting injured and not playing in the 2nd half. If Sellars plays in the 2nd half, SC wins that game. . Your opinion is based upon acting like LSU has the worst defensive talent in the SEC and dumping on the players.....LSU is NOT the worst talent in the league. I listed all the carries and yards for Milroe in his previous games in a post. Many teams have slowed/stopped the guy and most of them have less defensive talent than LSU...just a better DC.

This is Baker's scheme not Kelly's. And Baker has been darn good most of the year and the defense has played above it's head in a number of games. To stop modern offenses you have to have really good safeties. We don't. We got our tails whipped up front against Bama. The talent isn't there yet at those positions with enough depth to be a good defense game in game out.

We are easily bottom of the league in talent on defense. All of our most talented players are very very young. Add to that the loss of Guillory who was our best DL. There is not a single first rounder that isn't a freshman playing on that defense right now.

Literally the exact same alignment and positions as House’s D who also didn’t coach what we ran when he was here. So 2 DCs under Kelly, neither have coached or run the D before, both identical in structure yet they’re different? The calls are for sure but that it. It’s the same with the offense, have you watched Denbrock this year? Totally different offense.
