Are these kids better off at home? Do you really think 18-22 y/o kids are going to stay put in their homes? If you do youre very wrong, and so far removed from the mindset a kid that age has. With football atleast they have a reason to avoid going out and possibly getting covid19, because they want to play. There is structure in school and consequences that affect their dream of playing in the NFL. There are also better precautions taken at school to avoid covid19 vs being at home.

Do you really think anyone who thinks that is on this board? You are talking into the void

I think they would be safer playing and going to class rather than having nothing else to do, and I think a lot of people in charge feel the same way, however they are also scared shitless by the small chance a player gets seriously ill/dies from COVID and the lawsuits and bad PR that would come from that.

The president at Maryland was fired because a player died from heat exhaustion, no one wants any part of that and if the players don't play, it's not their problem.

They'll tell you they are doing this for the "well-being of the student-athlete", but really it's all about avoiding shitstorm lawsuits.

So, I'm for football this Fall. But, as I hate to say, your reasoning doesn't make much sense.
Football (practice, traveling and games) are not comparable to the activities a kid can have if there's no football season. To me, there's no doubt having a season isn't the safest choice here.
Having a football season is better for us fans, for the economy (especially places like Baton Rouge or financially for schools like LSU) and for those players who hope to get drafted. And I believe that's why different conferences take different measures too.

These are adults capable of making their own decisions. Stop with the "kids" BS.

The military is pretty dangerous yet you don't mind 18yo's choosing to do that.

The football team doesn't have time to be around anyone other than each other during the season. It is by far the safest option to play games in the fall.

Now that I've stated my feelings, there is a 0% death rate according to the CDC for 20 year olds.

Those people are extra dumb as no one is forcing them to play. They are willingly doing it. Ed O isn’t holding kids hostage see Neil. He opted out and was supported.

I am totally against the canceling of the season but why do people keep saying the players have to go "home"? Can't they just stay and actually use their scholarship and be students until cleared (whenever that will be)?

The players are asking to have the choice to play or not, and not just forced not to. I think that’s very reasonable

To me, if these kids aren't in the protocol and getting constant testing, maybe one in 10 takes the locking themselves in their room route. They are out partying, going to BBQ's, screwing girls left and right and they are not minding safe practices nearly as well, aren't getting tested regularly. What does that mean? You think they aren't traveling? Maybe not in sterilized planes, but in cars jammed up with their boys and/or families.

And what happens when they don't get tested. They may have it and be asymptomatic like the vast majority of these athletes have been and spreading it everywhere - including to grandma and other at risk folks.

At least in team protocol, you get tested and found to have it you get immediate and quality medical attention and are quarantined to prevent giving it to others.

The narrative got off the rails early and finally some folks are calling out some of these fallacies...sorry and disappointed it took so long.

This is correct, all of it.

However, the opposite is true. While they aren't being forced to play... IF the NCAA gets off its asses and grants a no-loss of eligibility... many are being barred from playing.

It wasn't too long ago, starting in the PAC-12 states, that student athletes were granted the ability to make money off their likeness. People fell all over themselves to follow suit. Now some (many?) are being prevented from participating in the activity that is the vehicle for that.

And it is the same people that trumpeted how much they are helping the players, of course with only altruistic agendas, that are leading the charge to keep them playing the very next season.

Grant them the right, take away the ability.

This one is easy. We are no longer talking about the dangers of spreading to other more vulnerable people. We are talking about direct danger they are putting themselves in.

These players are adults, and have the option to not play and retain eligibility. This is a my body my choice situation.

I’m surprised some players haven’t decided to be real cheeky with this phrase.
