I do not think the conservative play calling ever ended. That is partly due to JJ lack of being aggressive so they scaled back the offense. I mean looking at it in 08 to 09 it does look like a different offense in the amount of packages/formations that were run. I can not blame Crowton for all of the offensive woes in 09, QB, RB, OL all played a part in that.
Completely agree. I tend to cut our OL a bit more of a break than most people. I played T senior year in high school, and I can tell you, it sucks blocking for someone who refuses to throw to hot receivers.

Well not only that, we do not know how much Hitt/Black/Barksdale were trying to cover others mistakes thus making themselves look bad. That is bad thing, we can sit here and bitch and moan because we have 7 different versions of replay but we still do not know if someone pulled the wrong way or ran the wrong play or what.

Hopefully all the athletically talented kids we've been recruiting can keep this up. Replacing Baker on that end (assuming he becomes a defense only guy) could be difficult.

I hve said countless times no team is more talented in country. I mean LSU, Florida, Alabama all of them are on equal footing as far as talent is there. The difference has been how that talent has performed and matured. LSU tends to play down to the level of talent on other side of field and then when playing against someone of equal talent, LSU then chooses to make boneheaded mistakes to hurt themselves.

My thoughts? TAF already has my money, I do not have a direct line to Les, Chavis, or Crowton so I will just watch the games and curse, bitch, cheer, and yell like those around me
tduecen - You see, we can agree on some things. I do the same thing.
I just like to talk football and dive a little deeper into the why's . . .

The JaMarcus era in a nutshell. "Oh shite, we're down to a team we should be KILLING, hurry up lets win".

You are the type to poster I enjoy talking football with. You use factual evidence to support your thinking. Thats how I go. I'm with you, and agree with you on EVERYTHING you wrote. This thread will go on forever with all the negatigers. I am pretty optimistic about the season, but in a good way. Personally, I hope we keep BG on the sideline. We need this guys intensity on the sideline. (I've met him and watched a speech at a coaches dinner, unreal intensity). He is Saban, with a personality, IMO.
GOOD QUALITY POST

hell one player makes a mistake, misses a block, runs the wrong play, the entire offense can look like garbage. I look at LSU and see how much experience they lost and just hope these young guys can keep their head in games. I am afraid one makes a mistake at a key time and cost LSU one.

That has been my one issue with Les. I mean Saban had his games where his team look unprepared and I understand it is hard to keep a team prepared through a whole season. However, with Les it seems to happen more than once or twice a season. I hate that Les is so lackadaisical about the poor play, if Les would react how he did at halftime against Tennessee every game it would be a different situation. You would see fans then get in a corner with him because he is showing some passion.

Well hopefully Les has got the clock management thing down
If the O-Line can block though, I can't imagine a more talented group of receivers (assuming Shepard really made the jump that I've been hearing about) with styles that mesh just right. DeAngelo Peterson is going to be a HUGE matchup nightmare, if JJ can take advantage of it.

Dickson should have been the greatest LSU TE since Lafluer and he was never utilized properly in my opinion. I mean that should have opening the middle of the field causing the safety to stay at home a little more leaving 1 on 1 to the outside. However, LSU did not want to do that. Hell last year I honestly thought I could run the offense better and I would have done it for a fraction of what Crowton was.
Posted on 8/5/10 at 3:08 am to tduecen
Dickson was amazing at finding holes in zones and just sitting. Its rare enough at the NFL level that TEs can do that on a regular basis, and we had a guy in college that could do it. I feel bad for Dickson, because it seems like he was either getting killed by JL (Georgia, when he was in the middle of like 5 guys) or JJ never threw him the ball.

The amount of talent LSU has underutilized the past 2 seasons makes me gag. I mean even Florida in 07 struggling breaking in Tebow after a national title did not look that pathetic. USC last year had games where they looked great, but LSU really they had Auburn and Tulane.

It all comes down to the failure to recruit a couple more QBs when we knew RP was a complete nut job. That would have let JL sit a year and play, and JJ sit a couple of years and play.
Posted on 8/5/10 at 3:15 am to Jcorye1
I can't blame the scheme for all the misuse, because it seems like the different QB's were throwing it to completely different people (outside of LaFell).
Posted on 8/5/10 at 3:17 am to Jcorye1
JL was suppose to be the future, 4* recruit out of Texas. Thrown to wolves early he developed confidence issues and without the right tutoring he developed bad habits. Jefferson has developed some bad habits as well and has a confidence problem as well. He is scared to go through what he saw Lee go through and that means not taking risk throwing the ball.
Both quarterbacks can be fixed, then mechanically they can be fixed. They would just need the right coaching.

Exactly. We got caught putting all our eggs in the RP basket. I'm convinced that had JL not been thrown to the wolves, he could have been a very successful QB.

Jefferson is more than adequate, hopefully he opens it up more this year and we can see what he can really do.
