This is from a thread earlier in the week:

quote:

And currently, 70 on KenPom. A&M is 75, LSU really needs to take care of business on Saturday in College Station. In fact, LSU can't really afford to lose to either A&M or Flordia b/c there is a brutal stretch after those two - #7 Bama, #22 Auburn, #8 Tenn, and then a payback game for #13 Arky.

This team can't hang their hat on the OOC wins; they are mostly garbage. If they lose to Florida at home, then they might be in for a knockout blow from the upcoming stretch. Where do they get the wins to get into the postseason?

They’ll finish .500 and look to next year. Baseball can’t get here fast enough

We had people asking why we weren't ranked in AP Top 25 (even though we were 26).

Today shows you why. Lots of Fools Gold happening.

Even on the road tonight, we needed a win, but at least be competitive - which we weren't.

And to your OP, yes vs. UF is likely a must win.

a MUST win for what?!?!?! This team is NOT a postseason team. They are rebuilding this season. There are no “MUST wins” this season. What did you really expect from this year’s team?

Face it, LSU will not be in the hunt this year.....this will take a few years.

Then MM won't cut it at LSU. Recruiting has to pick up, and they need some big time transfers for next season. Multi-year rebuilds just aren't a thing in modern college basketball.

Perhaps we should start firing “fans” as quickly as they give up on HC’s.

I’ll settle for putting them in the Transfer Portal

Why is this funny? B/c you think LSU can afford to drop a winnable conf game at home and still make the postseason, or b/c you have already given up on this team?

I didn't say fire him, but if the bar is, "it's going to take a few years," then that probably isn't good enough. The modern college game almost requires a reload/rebuild every year, esp. if you are bringing in top players. A "few years rebuild" will always be off in the distance.

And also,

I have given up on any shot we might have had for the NCAA this season. I am just gonna enjoy the games I go to (all home games) and maybe watch a few away games, but not many.

My goal was for LSUMBB to get to 9-9 this season which would make us 20-10 or 20-11 (Texas Tech) and get us to maybe host an NIT game.

LSU's situation isn't exactly the same as the others. The NCAA BS is still looming (even though nothing may come of it) and McMahon walked into a bad situation. But yes, he has to find a way to recruit some young talent that will stay for a few years of development and be the foundation he wants at LSU to go with the transfer portal pickups.
