First time coming to Death Valley - LSU vs. Bama

Hi All,
Alabama at LSU has always been #1 on my list of college football experiences. I'm an Ohio State fan, but more importantly, a college football fan. I think LSU has the best home experience out there.
I'm thinking about buying tickets for my wife and me for this year's game against Alabama.
I hate starting new threads as a new member, but wonder if you guys have any recommendations on how we should treat the weekend? I was thinking of taking Friday off and enjoying New Orleans before driving up to the game on Saturday.
Are there any threads for fans who are coming for other places with food and tailgating recommendations, etc.?
We promise to cheer for LSU FYI
Edit: I might add, we are coming from out of state and any seating sections we should avoid/target would be appreciated.

This is the way- do Clancy’s in Nola Friday night.

Glad you are coming! Prepare for a lot of smart arse answers on the rant. Stay in Nola Friday night, go eat at Mr. John's steakhouse on St. Charles. Drive up to campus Saturday morning and walk around in your Ohio St gear. You will be invited for food and drinks at any tailgate that looks fun. Go to Walk-ons or Chimes after the game while traffic dies down. Lauberge is always fun after the game if you guys like to gamble. Have a great time! Anywhere in the lower bowl is what I would recommend as far as tickets.

You MUST wear your Ohio State gear! Seriously you will get more food and drinks and tailgate invites that way.

Savor everything. There is nothing like when you walk up the concourse and the lights hit your eyes. Felix's in New Orleans in amazing, as is Acme. Gotta check out Antoine's restaurant (oldest restaurant in NOLA) and of course Cafe Du Monde. I would suggest y'all go to Audubon Aquarium and take a tour. Other people can better tell you do's and don'ts of NOLA, I'm from upstate. As far as the game, go up to any tailgate, introduce yourself, tell them the gist of what you wrote here, that you're here for your first LSU game and they will give yall more food than you can stomach. The atmosphere is unbeatable. I took a buddy to our game against NW State in 2013 or 2014 and he's been a tiger fan ever since. Hopefully you get to experience some Death Valley magic and watch our Tigers beat Bama!! Good luck to you!

Don’t be afraid of the West Upper as long as you are in the lower rows. I’m on the 35 yard line and have a great view. Avoid the East side in case it would be a day game. Sun can be brutal over there, even in November.

Nah people will appreciate that a fan from another area is visiting when not playing LSU. They will want to show you a great time.

Yea I would leave NOLA no later than 7am (if its a night game) to avoid traffic and parking issues. If it is a day game, you may need to leave Nola at 5am.

If responses like this are representative of the fan base, I would say we are in for a great experience. I'll do some research before coming, but these suggestions are helpful.

If you do wear OSU gear, I might stay clear of the parade grounds b/c that's where the frats have their huge tailgates. It's fun to walk through there otherwise. I'd try to make it down to victory hill close to the stadium and catch the team walking down then the band afterwards.

I suggest wearing at least your ohio state hat, you will find LSU fans are happy to see visitors to the environment. New orleans can be fun the night before, but make sure you can leave early enough to really take in the tailgating and lead up to the game. If the game becomes a 2:30 game it might be tough to get there early enough. There are definitely some must sees leading up to the game.
Recommend seeing mike the tiger and the drum warmup before the game.
Must sees are the player walk down the hill and the band coming down the hill.
I have tickets in the South Endzone and really like them. But sidelines and north endzone are great. If you have trouble getting tickets reach out to me I most likely will have a couple available if you can't find better tickets.

Galatoire, Commander's Palace are very nice as is the restaurant at the Roosevelt Hotel. Cannot recall its name.
Napoleon House was a favorite haunt of mine, great muffulettas. Have a Pims #1 to drink. Acme Oyster House. These are all in the French Quarter.
Camillia Grill has great burgers and fries if you like that. Mandina's is great as well. Brite Star is less known but is one of my favorites.
Those are just a few of the really good places to eat.

Thank you. Getting pretty amped thinking about this weekend. Now I just have to sell my wife on everything lol. It looks like there are some decent options on Stubhub.

Indeed. The Alabama game is different than all the others.
Other games, you can show up at 11-12 and find a spot, but you better get there by 9 am at the latest if you want a decent place to park. 100,000 at the game and probably an additional 50K on campus for the tailgating - ALL DAY!
