Is it the LSU starting pitcher's fault that LSU hitters didn't hit?

I honestly expected this team to host a regional and get to a SR on the backs of the staff. I had a feeling the lineup was going to be unreliable. I didn't expect them to be very competitive in the SR though, so I felt Omaha was out of the question.

Given that the staff has been underwhelming, to put it kindly, it's not a surprise this team is fighting for .500 in conference and to even make a regional.

No team will want to be matched up with LSU in the post season. They have the starting pitching to keep the game close for 5-7 innings and a young talented lineup that can go off on any given day against any pitcher.

1991:
Lost midweek game to Tulane 5-1
lost midweek game to McNeese 6-3
lost midweek game to SELA 15-2

1993:
lost midweek game to Lamar 9-3
lost midweek game to Northwestern St 6-5
lost midweek game to McNeese 5-3

1996:
Lost midweek game to Dayton 7-6
Lost b2b midweek games to Northwestern state

1997:
Lost midweek game to UNO 6-4
Lost midweek game to ULM 6-2
Lost another midweek game to UNO 8-6
Lost Alabama 28-2

2000:
Lost 5 straight games in February
Lost to McNeese State 4-3

2009:
Lost 2/3 to Illinois
Lost 2/3 to Tennessee

And these were just our championship seasons. That doesn't even include other great teams that made it to Omaha. No, this is probably not a great team, but people need to relax about dropping a midweek game.

LSU is a good team this year but it has flaws. This isn't like football where teams ranked 15th generally are expected to beat unranked teams and lose to teams at the top; a 15th ranked baseball team is expected to sometimes beat top teams and sometimes lose to crap teams.

That plus for the last few years LSU has had occasional stretches where they get completely shut-down by average opposing pitchers throwing accurately and not very hard with good junk.

Paul does not have his guys ready to play night in and night out. It's as simple as that. The mid week losses fall on HIM and only HIM!

I question many of Mainieri's decisions, but if anyone agreeing with the above statement would look at it objectively, they would realize that Mainieri's record in midweek games is far better than any other coach that we have had. Heck, some of my complaint is that he focuses on winning these midweek games too much and doesn't use them to develop more starting pitching depth. Mainieri had about a 3 year run with maybe two midweek losses. Nobody in the country does that. While I am disappointed in the 3 midweek losses so far this season, I will not blame Mainieri for "not having his guys ready". That part ain't on him.

actually, a young team is exactly the type team you want to play in the postseason.

But there is more parity in baseball in general than in other sports.

Not when they have 3 pitchers that have a chance to completely shut down your own lineup allowing that young team to get some confidence. Plus by the time post season play starts you are talking about guys that have over 100 at bats against quality SEC pitching.

regardless, when you're talking about the post season, everyone is supposed to be good. if you're choosing between having to play a team of veterans and a team full of young inexperienced players, you will choose the young team every time.

I said earlier that this was a rebuilding year but I still get frustrated as hell when Tulane and McNeese State comes into our Box and shuts us down like they are our daddy.

Obviously, Skip had losses like this but this year's team already has 11 losses. There is no consistency. I know Latz needed an opportunity to pitch. You just can't lay an egg like this and not expect it to hurt come selection time.

Big Picture: this team will not be in Omaha this year. too young . Next year, we will be back in the CWS. Just have to be patient (Which I struggle with ) .

Yes he should have been in the lineup. We all know how well our pitchers can rake.
