Saban was the single most reponsible person for that loss. He screwed up their kicker for the rest of the game and had to rely on that screwed up kicker when the marbles were down. Lil Nicky's play calling in OT is what lost it for them. They put themselves out of FG range. They'd have been better off kicking the 3 on first down!
A shuffle pass and then 2 pass plays that were shut down. DUMB!
Not to mention putting Maze out with a bum ankle to field Wings' 72 yard punt??? HEL-LOOOOO?
Why doens' the media chastize him for that crap? No wonder he can't make it in the NFL.

Jimmy Johnson heard this the whole time he was at Miami. Didn't make him a bad coach.

Is it funny that this Saban worship by the bama fanbase proves Saban is bigger than UA...what does that say about the mighty bama program?
I just do not let it stand. The man came in here when we needed him and did a good job - a job for which he was well compensated. We had a strong fan base to begin with and we collectively bought into his particular brand of football.
He left to pursue other opportunities and we wished him well. He quit on his dreams and took a job with one of our most hated rivals. He has done a good job for them - one for which he has been well compensated.
Saban may be bigger than UA. He's not bigger than LSU. He's not much taller than my twin girls.

The third and fourth seasons, prior to Saban's hiring, combined for 19 wins and top #13 finishes both years. Those 2 seasons (yes, under Dinardo) were better than 3 of Saban's 5 seasons at LSU (including his last).
Are you saying Dinardo>>>>> Saban??????

Yup a great night. TO bad he could NOT keep it going.

That WOULD have been Dinardos claim to fame???? OK. I will do it your way. Saban won a TITLE at LSU. Gerry did not. Its pretty simple.

From what I understand Skip Bergman hired Saban. Bergman built the program. I could be wrong.
Am I the only one that saw this?

I just do this to counter your blatantly false "ashes" allegory. When Dinardo took over, THAT was some straight up dog $hit, on top of garbage, on top of ashes. He won - immediately. His coaching job from 1995 through 1997 was outstanding - in every aspect. His coordinator choices and stubborness doomed him at the end - but in 1999 when Saban took over, the program was reeling but not in shambles. There was a significant number of great players already on the team, and much of the damage from the Archer/Hallman period had been repaired and shored up.
It is not that complicated. Saban did take that and elevate that to a national title, but it was NOT built up from nothing. Period. Stop saying it if you don't want me to counter it.

Finebaum is an attention whore. The man cannot put two logical premises together and come up with an absolute conclusion. Please Finebaum, go suck dick or go screw your sister dude.

Sorry but he is RIGHT. Miles has just used what Saban built and took it to another level. FACT.
That's fricking stupid. If Miles took it to "another level" then that is NOT what Saban built. Saban built a program that was a notch below what Miles has built. By your reasoning, Saban took what Dinardo built and took it to anther level. NO coach in LSU history has had a run like the 7 years Miles has given us.

Whoa - I won't go that far - PJ is so completely wrong, but at the same time so passionately so, I can't really hold his being wrong, which is about 70-80% of the time (at what I see PJ, sorry man), against him.
He's wrong in such an entertaining way. (And he does know football - I think it's his "people" skills that are woefully deficient.)

Finebaum is a little queer that would love to do to Saban what's been going on at Penn State for these many years. Don't believe anything he writes.

Saban won with Dinardo's players

No. I was wondering who Skip Bergman is?

Why does anyone care about Finebaum's opinion? He obviously has always catered to the Alabama fanbase. They need their egos stroked and that's what finescum is there to do

Saban absolutely built LSU's program to what it is today
I thank Nick for his efforts, but LSU had 610 wins, been to 31 bowls, been ranked 15 times in the top 10, 26 times in the top 20, and 10 championship seasons before NS came to LSU.
What he did was to take over for a coach who was 33-24 and who had been to 3 straight bowls before he stubbled and fell.
He didn't take over for a coach who was 16-28 and never had a winning season.
Nick is an excellent coach, he can coach my team anytime, he helped return LSU to an elite level, but his 48 wins didn't "build" the LSU program. imo

Finebaum does not let the truth get in the way of a good story.

As much as i do not like Saban he did bring and leave the program in a great condition. Les came to a football program with all the pieces of the pie put together.
