Milazzo would stab someone for Ross’s freshmen numbers with BBCOR bats
And Ross wishes he was even close to the defensive catcher his first year Milazzo is.
Again, these are just entirely different situations. Milazzo and Travinski give us 2 really experienced guys behind the plate. With Milazzo being the defensive specialist and Travinski the big bat specialist. It's not to say Neal cant or isnt more talented than both. I think we all know his ceiling is much higher, but again, he's just a true freshman, a very young one (just turned 18 as someone else pointed out) and the team itself is absolutely loaded with talent at the plate outside of Milazzo.
So for Neal to ultiamtely take over the job this year, he's going to have play out of his mind offensively and show very good defensive skills before they think about making that switch...or Milazzo just totally tanks at the plate which is possible but you never know there. If Milazzo is a .200 hitter with a decent OBP they probably keep in the every day lineup again unless Neal absolutely shows out. He just brings a ton of experience and savviness behind the plate even if he's close to a 0 offensively.

Milazzo just needs to be our Hayden Dunhurst.

From a overall standpoint, Travinski has been the best catcher this fall. He threw out Kling by a mile but Nippolt dropped the ball when Kling slid into him. His receiving has also improved. Kind of crazy to think that with Milazzo improving at the plate and with Neal and Trav getting to their ceilings for their respective years, catcher could be a strength of this team.

Jay saw something in Travinski last year. I have never really seen it. I know the power flashes and he's shown a good arm, but he's otherwise just been really sloppy at the plate and behind the plate.

This is the first fall he’s 100% right?

Travinski still has a really high ceiling IMO. He’s always going to be a guy to dream on because he’s got prodigious power.

Good deal. I forget that some guys did and didn't pitch over the summer and/or may not have been on a throwing program coming in. It may be a minor injury, but also just may be a timing thing.

I wonder who finally asked those questions.

I don’t think he’s been 100% in a spring either

Good point. The last two years were almost all injury.

Oh, I understand injuries could have made a difference defensively for him. Unless he had an eye injury, I don't think they had anything to do with his contact rate. He had a swing and miss problem. He has had some really bad at bats.

Morgan doing what most expected with low K rate but also seems to be tapping into some power.
The sample sizes are still too small to glean too much from just this spread sheet (Skene’s WHIP to ERA ratio is weird, for example), but I think Morgan’s power is legit. I know I’m not the only one, but I thought his freshman year that he had the frame to add good weight and would be a 10-12 home run guy by his JR. season, and I’m still pretty confident he will. Especially considering with this lineup, almost everybody is gonna be protected. There’s not gonna be any way to really pitch around anybody.

Leah Vann just tweeted Jaden Noot will be ready in two weeks and that he’s on a different throwing plan.
Little is pitching on Sunday.

Morgan has always had power. He was asked to dial more into his average/obp when he got here, which is mainly why you saw him choke up so much on the bat, poke it around, etc. I think he was getting back to more of a power swing (at the expense of some avg/obp) until he started having aches and pains. If he's healthy, I think we see a good mix of the old Tre that can get deep into at bats and steal pitches out of the catcher's mitt and a new Tre that will hit it over the bleachers if you feed him a center cut fastball on 0-0.

So far this spring he has the 3rd best K rate on the team. That is encouraging if he continues to improve behind the plate. he has 20 plate appearances with 2K/5BB with a HBP also. Only 3/14 at the plate but 2 of those are homers.
Good thing is if healthy, the catcher position should stay fresh all year with Milazzo, Travinski, and Neal getting a decent amount of time.
As others have said, with the way the offense will be I think Milazzo being able to handle the staff better than the other 2 will give him an edge with maybe a late inning sub if we need to pinch hit later in the game.

I thought Morgan was going to surprise people last season and be a 10 homer guy. Think the knee injury may have messed that up a bit. I believe if he stays healthy this season he could get 15+ HRs.

Would love to see it. Would also not mind if he still only hit a handful but scored 100+ runs.

I think it will all depend on the situation and the game. He is smart enough baseball wise to know when he can take more of a chance vs take the approach he has had through his career so far with choking up 2" and hitting it where it is pitched.
Will be fun to see how he handles his approach in different situations.
