I see Bryce is picking up where he left off with the HBP, that alone will help the lineup and I think Beau and Bryce back to back will feed off each other

Pitching is biggest concern, LSU will be relying on fr to contribute a lot and will have to ride Hess and Gilbert

Webre and Cabrerra look like the real deal and offense might be better than last year even with losing Deichmann

So what happens when Coomes comes back?

I think he competes for that 1B or DH with Bryce.

The key is finding 2-3 guys in the bullpen who can dominate. I wouldn't be too worried about LSU's rotation because Hess and Gilbert are a pretty great 1-2 even with the loss of Lange/Poche/Walker for a year.

Todd Peterson has started opposite of Hess in the first and fifth scrimmages this fall. As I recall, this is an indicator of who the coaches are looking at for the weekend rotation. But, its too early to guess who the starting pitchers will be when the season starts.

He's definitely getting a look but typically they throw the 3 weekend guys vs the "starting" lineup. Gilbert, Hess, and a I think they're trying to find a starter out of the freshmen crop.

Johnny Wholestaff will be alive and well on the 2018 LSU team.

It's going to be a ton of mix and match every weekend and definitely every weekday game.

We probably won't have a 100 inning guy (maybe Gilbert), but we will have a lot of guys throwing 40+ innings.

Need Storz healthy. Fontenot, Vietmeier, Kodros, etc... lots of new faces going to get a hard look.

I want to read up on Michael Wacha and Brandon McCarthy and their recovery from thoracic outlet surgery before I project Vietmeier for anything this season.

ETA: And 12 other pitchers whose names I just wrote down. Like Chris Carpenter (one of the first I can remember that had the surgery) and Josh Beckett.

LSU really needs the JUCO's in Petersen, Moffit, Nowak, and Sanders to not log innings but step up and contribute in big ways.

Ugh. I forgot about him getting that surgery. Did he do it over the summer or more recently? Curious what you find as well.

Recently.

Here is one article I've found so far: LINK

Matt Harvey and Tyson Ross both had it in 2016 and were opening day starters in 2017. Harvey (July) and Ross (October) both had shitty 2017 seasons as well. Still a ton more to read. I haven't actually read the article I linked yet.

I'm hoping that by name dropping Brandon McCarthy every time this comes up, he may come in and provide some insight. Ha.

Petersen can be a legit back of the bullpen guy, IMO. I'm wait and see on Moffitt and Nowak. Sanders all comes down to control/command. He's started and relieved in the past. He's got the stuff. If he can throw strikes, he's got 3rd starter potential. Or another high leverage bullpen piece.

Peterson has also thrown against the "starters" this spring along with Gilbert and Hess.

Hilliard can also contribute to the pen. He has a big league slider. Fast ball 87-90. Delivery is very smooth. Might be able to bump it up out pen. He also could benefit from strength program he's maybe 150 soaking wet. I'm hopeful we use Cabrera too he's too valuable of an arm to not pitch. He has "it" on the mound he's a super competitor.
